ah I see, I assumed a farm trailer was going to be pulled by a tractor, I missed the bit at the top!
If the stub axles come apart I would be inclined to chuck them a lathe and put some decent parallel threads on them .... But it would probably be as cheap to buy replacement shafts if you have got to pay someone to do it.

Got the job done this morning just built the stripped area with weld maybe about 15mm long and ran a die up and it's worked a treat. Was expecting a struggle but it was ok. It's not the cleanest of threads but I think I can safely say they will not come off.
Zzr1200 I know what you mean but if I thought the hubs and wheels are going to come off I would not do it. I spent 12 years building/repairing car transporters so I am fairly clued up at what is acceptable and what is not. I think it's far to easy just to say new this and new that and not attempt to make a repair . Gone are the days of people actually repairing stuff and just replacing it instead that's not me.
The EU have tried to bring in laws to test trailers and it's been rejected just this year as well. Can you imagine every trailer having to be tested? How would it be policed? I am not against it by any means far from it. This trailer I have worked on is just one of many I have seen. My brother in law managed to put his livestock trailer on its side along with the land rover. No brakes on the trailer was pushing the land rover down a hill. Best of it is he dose not even have a trailer licence and he got away with it. As I said earlier a young mother was killed not far from here by a runaway trailer with no brakes so testing trailers has merit but how it's done I can see being a nightmare

Fred drift, but you might be surprised to hear that France, bastion of the EU, does not have an MOT for motorbikes.
It doesnt have a mot for trailers either Kemppi, though it does have them registered with log books, which is what the uk would have to have to enforce mot testing. If you even suggest that out loud in france DEKRA will probably start campaigning for it in the interests of increasing their profits (they run all the test stations here).

And to be blunt, the whole french mot thing is more geared towards catching people out for illegal modifications (as modifications just arent permitted, thats anything modified, there's no sva, biva or other such scheme to modify something and stay legit), so those criminals fitting such things as such as uprated suspension, wider tyres, better brakes etc can be brought to book. I have lots of experience in how petty this gets at times, eg a car that failed because it had the renault factory optional extra alloy wheels fitted, but the drire record stated the model came with steel wheels, or another refused test because it had goodrich brand braided steel brake lines in place of perished rubber originals, which the owner refitted and it passed!.
