Avoiding a green patio!

Having spent most of the weekend jet washing the patio then repointing it, I'm after a product that can be sprayed on to it to stop it going green and mouldy again. We have a big tree near us that is forever dropping stuff and causes quite a bit of shade.

A couple of people have recommended products but they seem to be to get the mould off rather than stop it forming again.

I've tried Sika sealing stuff in the past which didn't work.

Prefer a recommendation from someone who's actually used it rather that advertising hype.

Just about any disinfectant or bleach will do if periodical applied ,TFR also works.

Cheapo washing powder also works, but it must be powder not liquid, not sure on the long term prevention but does clean up the mould and moss.

Bleach. Not hype. Or try Cillit Bank Black Spot Remover.

Ditto, works better on stone slabs than concrete / cement tho

I wish you luck, we have quite a large paved area and have tried almost everything including specialist paving cleaner which turned out to be useless. When you find something please post your findings.

Not experienced that. my patio is a mix of concrete slabs/cobble stones with cement pointing, and a short granite wall topped off with more concrete slabs. its very close to some tall leilandi trees and goes green pretty quick, but PM always seems to clear it up no problem.

Not saying it does not work on that, have the same mix but also a fair size area of indian sandstone slabs and that comes back like new

Cut down any trees or bushes that shade it, before I extended the house the old patio had a massive laurel and a clump of bamboo shading it and dropping leaves, it was like a green sheet of ice, I cleared them out and jetwashed the slabs and they stayed clean after that.

Not quite as simple as that! Cutting down a 100+ year old tree with a TPO on it, and in a neighbours garden wouldn't do me any favours

Watering can, 2 teaspoons of chlorine granules (ebay hot tub supplies). I so mine twice a year and never have issues.

Patio Magic, applied in dry weather, and don't rinse it off. I think it is safer for nearby garden plants than bleach etc.

I had an accidental experiment result. I did some electrolysis rust removal fluid on a big leg vice that I derusted in a plastic dustbin. The pavement outside my house always has green mould and moss. I spilled some of the fluid on a patch about a foot square of the growth. Two years on and the patch is still completely free of growth. I subsequently poured it all over my neighbours flat roof with a watering can as he had an awful moss problem. That's still clear too. The other ingredient was the washing soda i used as an electrolyte.

Tried that stuff last week, did nothing really.

Tried Domestos and water 50:50 yesterday, hardly touched it.
I think my whole back yard has concrete leprosy.
