At what point do you give up on a project?

oh wow would be a massive waste to throw any of those bits out.....I'm sure he wouldn't have struggled to find takers, some interior bits especially are hard to come by now

He couldn't find anyone. Had a couple of people in to make offers for all the "stock" and equipment but wanted it all for next to nothing. He wanted to clear the unit, and didn't want to sell bits and pieces, or have random people poking around.
I still have his contact details if you know anyone who would take the lot ? Might already be too late though.

Talking boats, I know a guy who is building one to sail off into the sun set, hes been on nearly 25 years. But in reality if you talk to his Mrs she knows it will never be finished, and it would have been cheaper for him to hide in the garden shed!

took my mini off the road for a new floorpan in 2004....... ive still got it, its now a completely bare shell on a trolley, buried at the back of the lock up..... reckon it's going to be at least another 2-3 yrs before i get back on it..... cant rush these things.....

oh, and to answer the question in the original post, at what point do you give up...... not really something ive ever done tbh, although in more than a few instances (including the mini) i really should do..... The general rule of thumb seems to be, if youve lost interest/motivation/storage/money etc for something...... the one thing i always lack is time.... otherwise i just keep doubling down, and keep on keeping on.... not really sure im the best person to answer though to be honest, im a bit 'special' (not necessarily in a good way....)

I've just installed a new ECU on my Punto and after 2000 euros spent on it between November and now I just gave up.
I'm sending it to the scrapyard, I've replaced everything on this car and it still does the same .
Starts , doesn't rev up till you remove the power to the fuel pump,then it work but you have to keep it accelerated to 1500 rpm otherwise it will die

car electrical gremlins are the worst!
Mum had a honda CRV that would randomly cut out completely every so often, i tried and tried but could never find the issue... ended up selling it as spares or repairs, shame really, its was a bloody nice car!

For once maybe I've been smart.
My car snapped its rear suspension last week, which mullahed the subframe so both wheels were crabbing.
Given the age & value of the car - I drove the wreck 5-miles home dragging its rear end like a dog wth worms, SORN-ed it pending scrap. Cancelled the insurance & set about sourcing another runabout.
Agreed to buy one this morning & picking it up tomorrow afternoon.

Get it finished and put it to work! There are many profitable parts you could get a cnc churning out for little time input.

We need a list of parts a CNC router can make then.

Even small projects are a bit like house building. Shell goes up, roof goes on and folk think they are nearly there, in reality they have done about a quarter of it. Car projects are no different, rolling is nowhere near finished.

Those 205s are unbelievably light, guy in work had one with a full cage, windscreen, no doors, no power unit, sat on its original wheels. I'm no Mr muscle, but by grabbing the front panel I could lift the front wheels off the ground - not many cars you could say that about....
