well, the argoshield light seems fine to me, better than the SGS and on the volkszone deal cheaper too, so for me for now at least that is totally fine, i would have liked universal ideally but it was a bit of a toss up and with the volkszone the light is well under half the price so choice made! i would like to experiment with gas mixes but it just costs too much to try things out, i have used argoshield universal but it was along long time ago now, and since then i had been using light then adams 93/5/2, then the sgs 95/5, but to get other mixes the out lay is pretty big just to try it out...
For my use, I use a 93/5/2 mix for every thickness of metal I MIG weld, from thin to thick, as I only have one bottle for MIG welding due to being retired now and only weld now and then as a hobby, so for me it is a good all round gas.
Having said that if I was back in a commercial environment, for the thicker stuff, ie 12mm plus than I would use a mix with a higher CO2 content to get more penetration and if less than that thickness, I would use the above tri-mix. Just my 2 cents worth.
just picked up an argoshield light Y on the volkszone offer, and had a go much better gas, lower profile weld, smoother, and quieter arc I'm very pleased!
I found this out as well, I collected my bottle on saturday, still had a few bar in the adams gas, it then ran out after twenty plug welds .
I swapped out the bottle and removed my HI-LOW gauge thing, set the new bottle and set the pressure the same as before and wow what a difference.
I thought it was me but the weld profile is lower, sounds smoother and honestly a better weld has been produced.
Its suppose to be the same mix, so is this just the placebo effect..
Only down side is the lil adams gas bottle 9ltr, are a nice size to store and lug around.
