hey all, i'm thinking about switching back to BOC argoshield after going to rent free adams gas then southwest gas supplies, the reason being that the mix from SGS is 95/5 argon co2 with no oxygen, and it just doesn't seem to work that well, it's brilliant for spray transfer 200+amps and ok for very low amps, but not good for anything in between, after doing a bit of hunting around it seems that the 2% oxygen in argoshield has about the same effect as 15% extra co2, so i'm not sure what SGS are thinking making their mix 95/5 with no oxygen? they do a 85/15 mix too would that be a decent mix? usually it seems that a tri mix or 80/20 or 75/25 are recommended?
anyway the question is argoshield universal or light or some other rent free equivalent? any suggestions? I may go back to adams gas as that is the same 93/5/2 as BOC argoshield light, but the 9L 137bar cylinders don't last long and the cost racks up, i've not had universal in along time, but i'm thinking that would be ideal for what i do these days, 2-8mm mild steel mostly with the mig, with a bit of bodywork too.
so the options are
SGS 85/15 would be most convenient and cheapest.
adams 93/5/2.. tiny bottles...
adams 78/20/2.. same
BOC argoshield light or universal.. rental..
for 2-8mm
or something i haven't found yet?
Thanks
Rune.
