Is the main spring wound up ? you say it'll run if you keep pressure on the winding mechanism, I take it the spring's not busted ?
If you pull it completely apart you may find it's tricky to reassemble, particularly as it's got a more complex chiming mech.
Don't just bin it ,I'll have it if you'd rather not bother with it anymore

Yes it looks a tricky one to strip with the 15 minute and hourly chimes. Ok if I decide not to fix it ill drop you a message. I would like to have a go at stripping it. I just dont have the time right now.

The spring wasn't busted..but it might be now.. I unwound it too far..

Ooops ! I have replaced / fixed busted springs, but obviously the drum has to come out, sometimes they are designed to drop out without too much disassembly, with many though you end up having to split the main mechanism apart.

I didnt have any thing to loose as it would not work without constant pressure it. It did wind up ok. It has also been stored for the last 20 years dully wound up too.
