Thanks mate. The wife picked up her father today from the hospital and mentioned the clock to him and he said to just throw it out...
Since it has had a bath in petrol I am thinking about how I get new oil into the 3 spring barrels

i'd let the petrol all drain out from the spring drums and let it all dry first, have the drums got small apertures that it can drain out and a bit of oil introduced ? some do some don't

I can see a small hole on one-off them the others are covered with the 2 plates

I'd think they'd all have one then, If you've let the spring tension off you can prob rotate them (with the key) to access the holes
