Are boats really worth so little these days?

A workmate pointed this out to me today. Said he was thinking of bidding on it but couldn't decide if it was worthwhile. I'm not really much into my boats but it seems like an awful lot of boat for the money. Didn't sell at 16,600 now it's re-listed with a 18.5k buy it now.

To my uneducated eye, I think it's like a fourth hand Rolls-Royce.

Twin 5.7 litre!!! . (Edit) That's scared off half the punters already. Mooring fees etc. Might be fun for half a days hire. On a sunny day.

Owning a boat is like standing in the shower watching £20 notes go down the drain

I enjoy hiring a boat for a couple of hours or even longer, great fun on a sunny day

Would I own one? No chance

Its not just the cost of the boat, doesn’t look as though it comes with a trailer so you’d have to pay every time you wanted it moved or budget another 4K to buy one, full time berth costs a lot, maintenance is expensive unless you can do it yourself, storage in winter also.
A boat that size needs a V8 to be reasonably quick so a lot in fuel costs.

Most of them in that price range are under maintained money pits, and thats before you discover the transom and stringers are rotten.

im sure as money is tighter first to go is the top items cars boats

quality food 3 ply toilet rolls etc

back down to tesco value toilet rolls

i keep saying to other half cheap toilet roll use x sheats quality toilet roll use less


same as washing up liquid use a squart of quility if cheap stuff 2 squarts

lets face it not meny people know the diffrane so if they buy the good stuff still 2 squarts

Theres so many discarded migrant dingies that the price of boats has sunk...

I have a Wilson flyer 17. Although it’s a lot smaller than that and is for fishing I can confirm they are very expensive just to own

I just bought one last year, a wee fletcher with a 75HP, its a rapid wee thing and great fun, but let’s face it you’re not going to sit in it with your feet up drinking a G and T

I’d like to get something bigger that you could stay in for a weekend but just with the speedboat I’ve come to the realisation that in the UK trying to get the stars to align as in getting days off during a weekend and when the weather is good is not as easy as it might sound so it could end up sitting for weeks not getting used, I could maintain it and store it over the winter but in order to justify the summer berth costs it would have to be something which is used often.
Maybe after retirement!
