As opposed to the US Navy Seals, who I met a bunch of in the Philippines while the US still had some presence over there. A good percentage were big guys, some were huge, and the biggest dude even had SEALS tattooed across his back in big letters.....
I think it's a bit of a Hollywood thing that fit tough people have lumpy lean and mean muscles poking out all over like Bruce Lee or Rambo. I used to work with an Aussie guy, super fit, did 3 hours in the gym every night after shift when I was working on ships. He pounded on the heavy bag for half an hour, skipped for half hour, lifted weights etc, every single day. He could swim for miles, did surfing every day on break, went to the gym when at home etc.Worked with an ex commando engineer at one point and he was obviously a fit lean guy but nothing out of the ordinary.
He reckoned the massive guys always did really well around barracks and on exercise, but when they were deployed they were the quickest to lag behind and deteriorate. It’s fine when you’re eating well and chugging protein shakes and whatnot but out in the sand in heat and humidity you are on ration packs and your body can’t get the fuel it’s used to.
