My lovely old neighbour Malcom ( 9 yrs older than me @ 80 yrs old ) across the road has a forgetful habit of buying something , start to set it up then gives it a rest for a couple of months loses the instructions then comes to me with it in bits some of which are missing
This usually involves a Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass examination of his man cupboard over a period of two days to find everything then several reassembly attempts to get it back together & correctly working . Latest thing is he's had a brand new 12 inch saw bench since Feb this year , never said it wasn't any good till yesterday . I take a look , it's as noisy as two skeletons on a tin roof ., fair shaking itself to bits , three seconds later I find the blade is not seated on the spindle correctly so it's running like a wobble saw giving a nice 4 mm wide clean cut at 82 degrees .
Oops he's not assembled the fence correctly only one coach bolt is in the mounting groove , the other is pushing the fence out of true . That sorted I gave it another test cut & it's still out , checked the fence with my engineers square fence it's set true . Scribed a line along the saw blade front table end & the blade is almost 5 mm out . OMG the whole sawblade & motor has slewed to the right .
I had to virtually rebuild the whole machine and put stud lock on the bolts & mounting screws . Final test cut .................... Ahhh ! " BISTO " , " Goddit !
People like Malcom are a delight to help .
His brother on the other hand is a total " **ker " , he took a big lump hammer to the head stock housing of a rather expensive almost new wood lathe and broke the cast body , trying to change something round . Got my friend Glan to arc braze it up for me and charged him £75 for his stupidity His next disaster was being impatient & tearing the lower door hinge off a brand new big upright fridge and another £20 in my pocket .
I'm wondering when he'll bring his three almost new knackered chainsaws to me ....... incorrect 2 stroke mix , knackered barrels & pistons is my guess without even looking at them .
