Is 0.165 including the lacquer?
It sounds like 38swg which I think that I have.

I don’t think there much laquer left. I gave it a scrub with a scotch brite pad before measuring. I’ll try a flame on it tomorrow night and see if anymore comes off. It’s very close to the 0.16 size that brocott stock. It’s a German machine. Not sure if that makes a difference when it comes to wire gauges?

Looks like a bit of ptfe bar to do it would be about £50
Delrin is similar service temp as nylon. I’ve got a big chunk of nylon here that would do it but I think the temperature is an issue.
Might think about glueing ptfe so I don’t waste a load of material. I’m confident ptfe would be ok.

PTFE emits some really nasty things if it gets properly hot, I hear.
China clay may yet be worth investigating, if porcelain is an option.
Don't know the first thing about the stuff, but it could be handy......

It should be fine up to nearly 300c. It’s made headlines from the PFAS emissions from cooking pan manufacturing but in normal use it shouldn’t be an issue. The EU are doing a review of PFAS. It could affect my work a little as most components we use contain some form of PFAS. I’m happy to use it for this.

I've had a dig through my collection of wire, and I have some 38swg, which is 0.006".
0.165mm = 0.606"

I have two reels. The part used should have more than enough for your needs if you want it.
