Channel 4 seem to be capable of making some decent programming without a licence fee, so the argument that the BBC need the money to make good stuff is a bit flawed there. As is the lack of adverts on the BBC, because from the little I've seen of it over the last few years, they spend most of their time advertising their own drivel.

So it would appear that there's only me, @m_c and @indy4x that have actually got a TV licence then, and I'd get rid of mine and the TV if it wasn't for the Mrs being addicted to it. I guess that tells us something about the state of British TV.

I'm in the same boat, wifey loves Place in the Sun, Location Location etc! We very rarely watch anything on the BBC with the exception of rugby and the weather but as more rugby is on commercial telly I will be pushing the why do we pay for this dross button harder!

No one in our house watches any content normally, only Strictly Come Dancing garbage at Christmas so if I can persuade them not to watch that it's nigh on £30 a month saved.

Youtube and Spotify is all that goes on in our house.

Why are you paying £30 a month? It's £159 a yr or £13.25 a month.

I realise I’m probably in a minority here but I don’t particularly mind paying it.

Kids tv shows are pretty decent, there’s some decent documentaries (Alice Roberts, Brian Cox, Bettany Hughes etc).David Attenborough stuff is very good, not that I tend to watch them as I find them a bit depressing at times. The website is OK for sport, weather, local news etc and has some decent learning stuff for younger kids

Ghosts and the Bob Mortimer/Paul Whitehouse fishing prog are also good.

If I was getting rid of anything Netflix would be top of the list, I get more use out of BBC than the odd show I watch on that.

Channel 4 itself isn't directly tax payer funded (they do probably get grants through various other means for specific purposes), but it's still distributed through a network that is largely paid for by the BBC.

I've given up trying to tell the various companies sending my mum catalogues who somehow worked out they were being redirected to my address by the Post Office now she is in a home and now send them to her at my address, and have been returning to sender in the joyous expectation it was costing them money . . .

It’s not £6 a week, it’s nearer £3 a week. Are you sure you don’t mean “from £6 a month” which is probably what a b&w tv license costs (£50 odd a year)
