You do not need a licence for YouTube or any other streaming service unless the same thing is being broadcast on the TV network at the same time.

Part of the fee goes to supporting the UK wide TV distribution network, as well as local stations.

A youtube channel is not a TV company.

They wouldn't! Police aren't the faintest bit interested in civil issues. The only exception being to prevent a breach of the peace if you threatened to remodel their face etc.

looking at the tv licence declaration for not having one as we never watch live tv anymore . mrs has netflix and a firestick and i watch car videos on youtube

are they really saying we still need one if watching online films etc , for the record i have no problem telling a door knocker to jog on , but the mrs might squeal and get made to say something she shouldnt

When I didn't have a TV they kept sending threats to check. I sent them a cease and desist letter and explicitly withdrew any permission for them to set a foot on my property. They acknowledged my instruction.

I have never paid and never will. I will also never send them any correspondence, don’t give them the light of day. They have sent me letters monthly for years, I bin every one. Never had a visit, if I did I wouldn’t speak to them.

If they visit you the advice given widely is to not give any details what so ever, just shut the door on them.

I decided to stop paying for the BBC in 2014, a few of my family are the same. Scotland has the highest proportion of people not paying for a license and hopefully not watching the BBC/Live TV. I believe there have been 2 prosecutions in Scotland for non payment of the license in the last 12 years.

I always used to think the radio stations alone were worth the licence fee. Then the classified football results disappeared; Simon Mayo went; Kermode & Mayo went; Ken Bruce went; women took over R4 (classic example: Farming Today - exclusively women presenters, female interviewees wherever possible, fishermen called fisherpeople (though that's now been changed to fishers)). Not fighting for the licence fee any more

When I was an apprentice in 1990 one of the lads had a flat and basically rented out his bedroom and used the lounge for his bedroom.
He didn’t have a tv but it turned out his lodger did.
Licensing visited , ended up with a £500 fine which when you’re on £90 pw isn’t funny.

When I lived in France the tv licence fee was automatically added to the rates

This day and age there is no reason or justification to charge people to watch a television, very surprised it has not been kicked into the dirt.
