Anyone fitted their own garage door?

As the title suggests has anyone fitted their own garage door? I've nearly finished the extension I've built at home and am close to fitting a garage door. Initially I thought a roller for space but now I'm thinking sectional might offer better insulation. As it will be shut 99.9% of the time this would be preferable.
Any makes or brands to look out for would also be welcomed!

These are my 2 Garadoor up and over with 80mm cladding on the out side held on by 3 through bolts.
1/ they give me security 2/ they take minutes to remove 3/ super insulation, the Garadoor's also have insulation I fitted so in total there is 100mm, the doors are recessed into building. The big washers are the anchors for outside fixings, and I use wing nuts rather than hex.
Just a note the doors are operated by a handle pulling on the top latch, mate had a break in the scroats drilled a hole and hitched the wire to pull the latch down.
To combat this we drilled a hole in the latch tung above striker plate and slide an R clip through, this was done before the outside job, the doors will not open without the removal of the cladding

I fitted a sectional door in mine years ago, 4 sections so minimal intrusion inside (unlike an up & over style). I can park a car 3 inches inside the doorway and it doesn't clash. Mine was a Martin (made in USA) but bought locally. Nowadays they can be got pre-insulated which saves the hassle of doing it yourself. Garador, Hormann and Gliderol are a few names I've seen mentioned regularly but no personal experience of any of them.

Fitted my own, a Henderson up and over style bought originally from B and Q many many yrs ago.
Easy enough to do if you follow the instructions.

DIY fitted an insulted roller shutter door to mine instead of the up and over. great addition.

I've just bought a second-hand electric roller door from a friend of a friend, and have been looking up how to install it. From what I can find, it seems that removing the old up-and-over door will be more complicated, but mainly because it's been there since the house was built in 1966 and I'm not sure where it's fixed in place.

I'll be following this as I will be looking for doors for my garage/workshop build. I want barn style doors to save needing to roll under the ceiling (giving me more space) plus easier to use for a workshop type garage.Would like insulated but depends on cost against budget.

ive fitted a up and over door years ago did not have a clue what i was doing read the instrucitins and was done in an hour only 4 fixings on that one

hardest part is leaning the door on the angle to get it in the garage
and 2nd thing is look to see if you nead any clearance as mine worked fine but you only need a very small stone in the wrong place and it stops it closing and you had to have a look around and flick the stone away

Build them?

I made a set of bi fold doors from box section swinging on barrel hinges. Insulated them and clad them with wood on the outside and OSB on the inside.
Originally I was looking at roller shutters, but for a 5m span I decided I could make something better, stronger and cheaper.

doors behind so built up a removable frame so can be removed and replaced after moving stuff inside and out of the place

You’ll end up getting fed up with the lack of interest, leadtimes, and ridiculous prices offered by anyone if you want anything slightly different than a standard opening. I fitted an insulated roller door (from a company called easyfitgaragedoors.co.uk) about 6 years ago and it was fairly straightforward (with someone helping as a second pair of hands!). I wouldn't want to go back to any other sort of door now (at least on my single garage). The electric open & close (which is pretty essential on a roller door) is lovely when you've got back from a motorbike journey! The most important benefit of a roller door is how little space it takes up. I've got lots of stuff attached to the joists for overhead storage and an up-and-over door would block a lot of that space.

I built a couple of sets of hinged doors myself, all steel and very secure.
Sorry, no pics to hand though.
Anything off the shelf will have a known break in method if you dont modify it.

I got my doors from Rollerdoors uk, fitted them myself with help just to lift the top onto the rails, took about an hour to fit each door and maybe around a half hour for the electrics, it’s not a difficult job.

I fitted a 4 section 40mm insulated electric door, fairly easy on your own. If you have no other way to gain entry, buy one with an additional lock for use in the event of power loss. Especially if like me your house power is also in the garage. I did have to park the car against the old door after it was no longer fixed for one night.

The 4 section ones have fewer sealed joints and therefore leak less heat. My garage is half integral and the door holds the temperature @ 4 degrees above outside during the winter.
