A mate put me onto Door Blanks. These are glued composite wooden doors and are VERY solid and surprisingly inexpensive. You tend to see them in Substations and the like. The beauty of them is you can keep cutting pieces off them if you need to and they will still be solid. As the entrance on mine is different to yours, I built a steel frame with a hanger rail and made a large sliding door from them using 4 door blanks. I braced them together from the back similar to how you have done. Each door blank measures 7' high X 3' wide

Whats a good oil based primer?

Fitted them today. No planing required except on the bottoms towards the middle as the block paving slopes upward away from the garage. Missus is priming them with weathershield oil based as I sit enjoying a beer in the sun

Upcycled the old door uprights and a couple of pallets to make a smaller shelving unit so I can harbour less rubbish on that stupidly large dexion thing, and also get the car in easier

Doors painted. Weathershield flexible primer and sandtex 10 year satin , because its oil based. Outdoor office needs re doing with the sandtex because we used that water based carp and its flaking off in places already. Had a damn good tidy so I can see the floor and the workbench and had a garage afternoon with the fire lit

.... thinking about it, I guess you could have a steel frame paneled in with wooden planks - that way you might get the best of both worlds. People do that sort of thing with gates so why not doors?

This is how I've made the doors for my small workshed and store shed.
Angle iron Frames.
Box section doors
Clad with tanalised Timber Palings typically used for fencing, then stain etc to taste (I found simply painting in Creosote came out surprisingly nicely).
Hinges are the weld on stub and eye type used on trailers (I cut the tabs of the eyes as it helped the door steel to recess neatly into the Angle door frame.
Easy to make, strong, can be made to look like much more expensive all-timber doors if you want and nice and secure (use coachbolts with the round head on the outside face thru the timbers and the inner steel box section).

Before and after. C life has been away at the bodyshop having some TLC. Took advantage and had a major clearout. I can now get a straight run in and get at the compressor etc with the car garaged. Over the moon with the outcome

2 years on. Had to plane a little of the top of the left one due to settlement. Theyre going to have another paint next week

Went for the sandtex “bay tree” . Its a nice satin finish and is one of the few non water based paints available. Office is done and made a start on the doors. Eldest is making noises about getting the gozney pizza oven out so Ive uncovered the kitchen

I used old decking boards for mine. Strong but incredibly heavy.

Given them a lashing of zinsser allcoat satin anthracite. They look much better dark
