Anyone ever had a long lasting angle grinder?

I usually use to put just enough pressure to avoid any bounce from the wheel .
Less pressure =more speed=less tool and accessories wear

Two of mine have started switching off if there's the slightest bounce or judder from the work, the slide switch just pops back. One is Macallister, the other Energer. No, I'd not heard of them until I just looked at the name on them. I've squirted out the switches with cleaner but it made no change.

My metabos have been good.

I don't rate my Fein grinders, got to be honest. Very expensive and the 5" has gone wrong within a year.
I used a lovely Bosch 9" the other day and honestly feel like the Fein is a piece of Chinese garbage in comparison.

The old school bosch pro grinders are fantastic. Had mine for 8 years until it recently started smoking and that was that.

I have a handful of Hilti’s ranging from 10 - 20 years old or so, had them all from new and never had any let me down. Bought them over a period of time until I no longer found myself changing disks or wheels in the middle of a job unless they had worn out.

Range in power with the most expensive one running wire wheels for 10+ years.

In my job none of them last but there used daily.hitachi ones the switches go.makita ones the motor goes.on DeWalt ones now seem ok only had them 5 or 6 months though.
Can't beat the old green Makita stuff I've a drill that's 30 years old still going strong.

I have a pair of the older 115 dewalts , not my favorite grinders by a long shot but they do get used fairly hard and apart from brushes once in a while and a blow out with the air line they have done well .... I really like the slim line gws bosch , but they eat brushes , wear out switches and the armature wears out in about eight months , but they are very very slim and easy to wave about with one hand . , Ive nearly 30 115 mm grinders as I work from shop to shop , and dont like swapping discs , so I tend to keep four to hand a cutting disc , a flap disc a wire cup brush and a traditional thick grinding wheel , so I pick the gws for 1 mm slitting discs and run the newer fat but powerful dewalts on flap discs , where the power helps them survive . Ive a fair few Makitas that run smooth and have lasted well , they are noticeably smooth after running the gws bosch .. and a couple of Feins that will no doubt last for the rest of my days as they only run abrasive sponge type pads for paint removal ,,,
guess Ive said lots but not actually answered the op , buy a few and take the load off one and they will last better , thats my findings.

Metabo has taken the abuse.

My Metabo managed about 12 years, I bought another to replace it and it didn't make 6 months. Sorted under warranty and I bought another armature to fix my original at the same time. The new one repaired under warranty managed another 2 months then went back again with the same problem and I bought a Makita to use in the meantime which has been good. I now have two Metabo and a Makita all in working order plus a couple of Aldi cheapies with rear handles. None of them get that much use lately so they should last.

My Champion brand one is going great guns still... and if you've never heard of that brand it will be because it was a Focus DIY own brand... and they closed down 11 years ago (I'd already owned it a number of years by then anyway).

115mm 1050W, Variable speed and was dirt cheap as well. Wish I'd bought another few!

It might be different if you are a professional, but as an amateur it probably doesn't really matter.

As someone who pratts about at home, I have from memory, Performance Power, (B&Q budget), Aldi, and Bosch Blue professional grinders. I also have a couple of knock off Makita cordless.

These are all 4.5 to 7 inch grinders. I also owned a 9" Nu Tool grinder that died after a bit of abuse. It was pretty horrible and I don't mind its passing.

Generally, the disc lock button goes first, which is very annoying. After that it gets serious and the motor goes.

I always go to my cordless grinders first. I have one set up with a flap disc and the second a grinding disc to get rid of mill scale.

More grinders is better. Excuse my English. It is just nice not to have to swap grinding discs.

Don't be fretting over a cheap tool. There's plenty more important stuff to garner your attention.

i have 5 different makes of grinder and bought a good second hand dewalt one for 25 quid .it has a powerfull motor on it and feels right dont ever just buy one because its on offer . get the highest wattage motor u can buy for size

Well I’m now 3 1/2 years down the line with a slim bodied Makita and so far it’s out lived the rest. I’m impressed for the first time in years!
