Anyone Else in to Internet Radio?

Just in case you don't know, an Internet Radio connects to your router via cable or wifi, and makes it effortless to tune in to all the radio stations that stream. Estimates on how many that is range from 25,000 to 40,000. So as well as all the BBC stations, you might even find a station that is dedicated just to mig welding.

Being something of an insomniac, I mainly listen in the early hours of the morning ( I have a remote controlled radio so can change channels from under the covers ) and currently tend to go to one of the following stations;

BBC Radio 4 Extra
Pumpkin FM (2 stations doing vintage British Comedy)
Various National Public Radio (NPR) stations in the US ; sensible radio from stations funded by public subscription
CBC Canada (a bit like a Canadian Radio4/5 mixture)
LBC and Talksport (certain highly selected programmes).
BBC World Service
Soft Classic Rock (exactly that 24/7/365) typically; Steely Dan, Eagles, Doobies, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, with no announcer/DJ and no ads - Groovy .

Anyone else listening on the Internet, and if so, what are you listening to?

BBC radio 4 extra is also a favourite of mine. The i-player sitcoms and dramas are also worth sifting through too. I enjoyed the Detective drama series with Ray Brooks if that sort of thing floats your boat. I put them on whilst working rather than music.

I also tend to listen to BBC Hereford & Worcester in preference to the utter buffoons who frequent our local station, BBC radio Gloucestershire, but even that is only tolerable at certain times.

I’ve browsed the American stations, but nothing comes to mind that I tend to go back to.

The Pumpkin station sounds worth a listen.

if im honest i went right off of bbc radio a long time ago got sick of the constant repeats of the same songs being played on it

now i did get to try internet radio through burdekins cottage in scotland via his speakers and the alexa system

i also went back to galaxy radio while up there

the alexa soon got unplugged as i had to do anyway and the speaker system well i hate being forced to install something so you can play it on all blue tooth speakers in the house but i had to except it and hated it wanted to know alot of things while excepting its usage

laptop was clean enough to do so

in end i went back to my own music saved on phone and laptop even got asked for it while there as someone else liked what i was playing

I like British forces broadcast we pick it up fine from I imagine MOD Caledonia, No adverts alright craic and songs not just the "charts" repeated all day.

If you speak French 'Rire at Chanson's ' is very funny, Coluche and other French humour.

Some classic sketches, Coluche was quite a character and would mock any culture, in this day and age some (alot) of it may be frowned upon, but he didn't care, he'd mock anyone in the name of humour.

In fact, I've just read his wiki entry, he ran for President of France etc. Before dying in a motorcycle accident aged 41.

Believe me, what the BBC says we’re up to is not what we’re up to, which is why so many are switching off. Must try this digital radio thing - our Mr Drakeford doesn’t think we need radio so it’s hard to get decent fm, even 800 feet up where we are.

Calgary 105FM - been listening over the net for 20 yrs or more - ever since the country stations I used to listen to out of Cincinnati (that I used to listen to on FM when working over there) went off the net due to royalties.

A right good mix of modern country and good, funny DJs. And weather forecasts that worry my neighbour when its on in the garage . ." . . . we're expecting 22" of snow overnight, the high tomorrow is -26 . . ."

And with modern phones etc, I can listen to it on the car radio too - traffic reports are less than useful though.

I've even been mentioned once or twice on air when I've responded to things they mention

Charline Vanhoenacker , is hilarious, Antoine De Caunes, 'pop pop pop', and that chap, Fabrice Drouelle, Affaires Sensible, at 3pm.

Better than BBC Radio 4, and far more cultural.

Check it out, also good news and all that, the only thing I listen to @Other Daniel @MCKDAVID etc and can't remember others...

Did anyone ever listen to a programme syndicated on US NPR called "Car Talk", presented by "Click and Clack - The Tappets Brothers"?

It involved two crazy American-Italian brothers who would take calls on air from people with car problems. However, the two guys were born comedians and managed to raise a damn good laugh out of every query, while still giving really good advice.

Unfortunately, one of them passed away, and NPR continued to repeat the old shows for some years, but it's now off the air.
