anyone driven the...1.0 ecoboost focus?

What sort of driving are you going to be doing? it its all town and short journeys a petrol would be better than a diesel. Also how often are you going to be drining on company time?

didnt know about the PPM thing, will look into that. will be mostly doing motorway/dual carriage way driving, maybe 30-40 miles to some sites and others are about 120 miles, not sure how often it would be, sort of as and when required

Small doesn't always mean economical. The family (read that as wife's !) Skoda 1.4 TDi is MORE economical than my Smart Fortwo.

I have a 2.5TDI A6 1999. It does 40 miles per day on dual carrigeway to work and back mon-fri and the mrs uses it for gigging and a few miles to work in the evening. This is the lease I'd consider for a deisel. but she does not bad mileage. Expenses last week for a trip to Manchester were ~ £60 of fuel and £227 back from the company. I'm guessing she does about 40mpg

A work colleague as the 1.0 ecoboost focus. I've not driven it, but we have been on a fair number of long journeys in it together. Its actually quite impressive as a passenger - you wouldn't notice the it is such a small engine from the way he drives it. Perhaps he uses the gears a little more, but its not noticeably underpowered.

Just to confuse everything, my dad had a megane scenic diesel - that thing did 55+mpg...

Unfortunately, it completely renaulted itself 3 months before the finance period finished and was effectively scrap (cost £5k +interest to buy, sold for £250 to a guy who tried and failed to fix it and scrapped it).

Point being, a £500 car that does 35mpg can work out cheaper than a £5k car that does 55mpg over 3 years.

Same with other things - My disco does ~30mpg and is 240/year tax and 165 to insure -- people ask why I don't spend £10k on a new car that has free tax and does 60mpg... Do the maths.

what engine is in the disco? td5?

just been on the phone with my manager who wanted to clarify a few things...if i want a company pool car i can have one! i have to go to my site first to clock in and get details of why im going to the customer site...at which point i can have one of the company ford s-max's and a fuel card

I'd be buying a cheap car £500 ish .If it breaks dow then fix or scrap and get a new one for around the same. If they want you to travel for them then they need to supply a pool car or decent mileage rate.

i fear you may have missed my last post...they have said i can use a pool car when needed as i wont know where im going until the day so will have to go to the factory anyway

i didnt think they got mileage that high...i was told about 22mpg was good for them

left foot? did you just sit there revving it with your foot on the clutch?

Well yeah, if you keep the clutch pressed down it'll use loads of fuel and not go far

(I know what you mean really you shouldn't drive them like a 'car' unless you don't like driving past petrol stations... Point of interest, I get 18-20mpg from my 2.25p s3)

what would be the expected form a 200tdi does anyone know? i really do need something to slow me down, but i always get distracted by things that will make me go faster!

i will have you know the megane hasnt broken down since the last time...although the last time i had to work on it was yesterday...and the next time will be at about 4pm today when the mrs comes home as she said it sounds as if the exhaust has fallen off...

I would imagine it'd be similar to the 300 for the same driver - there's very little difference between the two mechanically.

Just thought though - my 300 has the mechanical fi, not the electronic pump - might make a difference

if i were to buy one it would be the 200tdi...ive no idea why but insurance is nearly 3x higher for 300tdi than for 200tdi with the same driving details entered

That seems strange right enough.

There's no difference in insurance for me, but I keep getting told I'm on minimum premium...

when i was looking a few weeks ago i had a look on ebay and got a VRN from a 94 disco 200tdi and one from a 300tdi...the 200 came in at 297 a year and the 300 came in at 808 a year, the only thing i changed on the policies was the VRN for the quote...
