When aircraft had to stand down for about 3 days at the time of 9/11, there was a noticable drop in pollution in the USA. During the recent lockdown/pandemic the same thing was noted but on a much wider scale because so many countries were involved.

This clearly demonstrated the vast amount of pollution created by aircraft. We hear about restrictions on red diesel which is used for production.

I have so far heard nothing about high taxation of the aircraft/travel industry-often used for leisure. It is clear that governments are not so serious about the climate issue.

I built a electric geotechnical drilling rig
Drillers Customer demanded electric for eco reasons
No 3 phase on site so wheeled 3 phase generator capable of starting and running 40kw motor.
As it was on the road not site their eco sensibilities had been satisfied

Putting several hundred tonnes in the air and burning fuel to put it there and move it for personal transport doesn’t make sense to me unless it’s life or death

theres a restriction coming in you cant buy wet log wood has to be dried before you can sell them which is pure stupid

but thats what you get with pen pushers

they forget the drop off and storage that can soon wet logs

As long as you buy more than 2m3 at a time you can buy & dry your own.

PS if dry / seasoned then getting "wet" is not a problem as the cell walls are already fractured so will re dry quicker than first time round.

Everyone who feels this was has the ability to put there money where there mouth is by never again getting on an aircraft or boat. It would be very hypocritical for anyone who complains about pollution from transport to go on an annual holiday abroad.
When the majority of the population feel so strongly about this, there won’t be any more pollution from aircraft or boats because there won’t be of these in service any longer.
Who knows it may happen some day.

As long as you buy more than 2m3 at a time you can buy & dry your own.

I don’t buy it, I go looking for it, cut it up and store it over the summer and burn it in winter after it’s seasoned. When it’s properly seasoned there’s practically no smoke from it once the stove is up to temperasure.

That`s pretty much it, run them 18/7 and they don't last that long. The other thing is sizing, get one that meets max demand and that`s a lot of generator and fuel being used when its only the lights that are on.

Thats where a battery bank inverter system helps.

You can be in the more efficient zone for longer & then towards the end of the charge put on items with high loads like washers.

Then the inverters supply the loads we you are using less.

Our true base load is about 120 watts.

Often sits at 400-600 watts but can hit 7000 watts. Inverter system is capable of 10000 watts continuous & 18000 watts if supplemented by the genny.

The genny once warmed up is supplying 8000-8500 watts.

in certain cases id agree with you unless your a light user

certain parts of the uk its still too dear to get electric installed therefore an alernative must be used

electric heating water is still a poor setup its certainly not viable for central heating/storage heaters/water storage heaters but has been used with costs involved

personally id rather use a wood stove setup for heating that sort of system

40 gallons of heated water tank x2 loads of wood twice a day

I based my comments on the situation and questions of the OP, who has a Utility supply already.
I well aware that there are situations and circumstances where Utility is either prohibitively expensive or even impossible to obtain (I've been providing off-grid solutions with my job - so I know the various reasons for off-grid adoption pretty well).
I'm also aware of the different off-grid solutions and systems, and there are myriad individual needs/wants and solutions.
People tend to think its off-grid domestic power - but often its a 3ph solution to run workshop equipment etc somewhere where 3ph isnt supplied, or combinations of both requirement.
In any case though the basic answer is the same regarding cost of power.... and that is that off-grid electricity costs more per unit than readily available Utility.
If that was not the case, we'd have sold and installed a hell of a lot more off-grid systems than there are.

per KWH is much less than the grid. If you are staying there, its actually isnt so ridiculous.

You might want to re do your sums on that.
1L red = about 10kwh
Current red prices are about 80p inc 5% vat
Its accepted that only 1/3rd of that is converted to rotational energy
Even without generator losses thats over 24p per kWh.

The 'majority of the population' will never 'feel strongly' about yet another impending climate catastrophe, because they know this non-existent bullcarp has been shamelessly invented.
When I was growing up, the immediate impending disaster was a new Ice Age. Never happened. Then it was flooding, I remember a piccy of the top of Big Ben , surrounded by stormy water. Now it's 'global warming' which is equally fictitious.

Yes, if you were not, as part of the arrangement, deriving significant energy from Solar. But the numbers INCLUDE a solar array.

I'm at a loss to understand how this is going to work, I take it you are on a legacy fix tariff? I checked with EDF what they can offer me - E7 is 35p/day and 21p/night with standing rate of 50p per day. Those 4.5p kWh tariffs are losing EDF money so I'd expect a massive jump as soon as your tariff ends which changes the financial viability significantly.

E7 is indeed rubbish, you need to be looking at EV tariffs.

Let us think of what would benefit all of us. The humble scales, and balancing. If the general public could guarantee that every penny of potential tax revenue from flying would go directly to helping the environment, I feel the vast majority would be in favour, except the selfish ones in society. It would result in a massive amount of money being directed year in year out.

I had a workshop for twenty five years that was off grid due to the power company wanting twenty eight thousand plus VAT back in 1979 to connect power to the premises, I ran a 50KVA three phase generator to supply the workshop and the power worked out at just under half the cost of buying from the grid and servicing was taken care by the saved cost of connection and no standing charge. The unit ran on gas oil which was considerably cheaper than diesel from the pump. Due o the governments ban on the use of gas oil/red diesel other than for farm use that is coming into force in April this will no longer be the case, although you can use up what you have in your tank after April so get a very big tank now?

you could use kerosene with some oil added if its an old fuel system
