So chaps, I wish to dig a big hole and build a swimming pool so my children can learn/remember how to swim, also so I can splash about and have fun. I seem to have bought the keg gear for the home-brew pub bar thing that will go next to it already.
Garden not massive, but big enough. Lawn at the back is abut 50cm above house level, heavy clay soil which didn't collapse after the dig out for our extension for over a year, so the retaining wall on it isn't really holding it up. I built a patio using mainly reclaimed stuff for free, so the retaining wall can be removed easily - part of it is actually made of the RSJ's the builders pulled out of the house. I'm not originally from Yorkshire but I did live there 1988-2003 so don't like wasting cash!!!
Looked at above ground steel frame - idea is dig hole down to house level or lower, sit it in and build decking/patio thing around. Probably use stuff dug out to raise ground level around it a bit rather than pay for skips to take soil away. Also looked at the steel doughboy style that can be partially buried - build deck etc on top of that. Then there's the dig a big hole, concrete blocks, concrete floor (I have a mixer), build walls above ground to get better depth, build decking etc. I was thinking of a redneck build using visqueen DPM as a liner, but then I thought about just tanking walls and painting.
Anyone done this, any tips???
