I am interested in this mainly for the HF start, the footpedal option is just a bonus.

I just looked for member names starting with 'Tom' but couldnt anyone that resembles him. I guess if he is a regular visitor, he may well see this thread. If he isnt a regular, chances are he wont read a pm from me before I decide to buy one or not.

Ah cheers Joe. Looks like you are still sober on 2 beers, have another on me

He hasnt logged in for 3 weeks it seems, so am hoping that somene else on here have used a similar product and can give oppinions. I might just bite the bullet and buy one, if not.

I have emailed the seller regarding if the add on is compatible with my Clarke Tig150. I had a reply from Tom, but he is unsure with my machine. It depends on the open voltage circuit (Im sure some of you know what that means). Tom has only seen them working on larger 300 amp machines.

If anyone has any ideas, then great, otherwise I have emailed Hobart and am hoping for an answer from them.

Not sure what you meant by ideas - I definitely don't know the OCV off the top of my head, but...
If you have a meter of any kind, you could set it to DC Volts, put one probe on the earth clamp, the other on the contact tip, and you'd then have your Open Circuit Voltage. It goes up in small(ish) steps, as you turn up the power setting.
If you're wondering what range to put it onto at the start, it's very likely to be under 40-50v.

PS you'll need to pull the trigger to get a reading, so you should remove the wire feed tensioner, too - so as not to "poke" yourself!

Sorry just saw you said TIG - the wire feed, contact tip part is wrong, tungsten to earth clip, with the HF off, if it has it.

I saw it differently, I assumed it was only for use with a stick welder (just by looking at the ad).

(so why I was on about contact tips etc just now, Ill never know!)

Yep thats right, its a scratch start Tig/Arc inverter

Too late now, but the "very likely to be under 40-50v" was obviously a huge & dangerous lie!
Would have been more true if it were a mig, but it isn't - so I need to learn to listen/read better.
I would go back and doctor my other post, but that would be cheating! And also makes it more confusing to follow the thread. So I'll just apologise, and shut up for a while, instead! "Sorry Tiggy 3-4 sheds!"

Recieved a mail back from Hobart:

We do not have any information on that accessory since it was not made by Hobart USA. If the unit is High frequency generator I would recommend against it do to noise issues that could damage your inverter machine.

I don't know how to listen, read or shut up, do I?

Anyway, I'd have expected stick to have a higher OCV than 20-25v, always think of them being in the range of 50v and upwards, as far as about 100v.
