I bought a scooter two weeks ago
seller claimed it had been fully rebuilt by previous owner, in to the letter it has,
Where does resonable standard come in to play.
when I went to see it, it looked really good, the body work was/is stright and the engine from the outside looked/is good, it started and ran ok.
done the dead, paid my cash and headed home, the seller is not close to me, not close enough to go back and knock on his door, not that he is likely to awnser me.
anyway, not even a week after owning it, I took it for a run, the bike kept seizeing on me,
it had only covered 331 miles since the rebuild an so I was running it in, staying well below 40mph
it broke down in the end and The AA took it home for me,
I was ok ish about having to put a new piston in the bike as its no big deal and not a lot of money,
but before doing so, I wanted to see why it was seizing up.
well what a can of worms I found.
The barrel is a 57mm and it had a 57.4 mm piston (cant say if it had been truned down, as it was to far scored to tell)
What was far worse, the crank had been welded!!!
on the vespa, the crank has a cutway that acts as a valve for the port timing, this at some point had been damaged and so some one had welded it and re cut it to shape,
the oil seal jurnals on the crank had also been welded and machined back,
the inner casing were the crank fits had had welding also to correct the damage that the old crank must have casued
There are a few other issues inside but the crank was a real shocker to me,
Ive riden scooters for a big part of my life, I have seen many good friends lost due to these scotters seizing up and throwing the rider, only to have a car or lorry hit them.
welding up a crank is a massive no no and should never have been done,
the seller is not replying to me !!!!!
SO HERE IS MY QUESTION
yes in true sence to his word, the bike has been rebuilt,
so were do I stand ????
