NopeAm I the only one here that would give that collar a gentle tap left/right with a brass drift and hammer
Bob
Looks like a giant cone clutch. I'd warm it up a bit and hit it with a soft drift.

so some sort of clutch?...so some sort of clutch?
...Is it to protect the gearbox in the event of a jam? Should it be spring loaded can't see the jam nut offering very sensitive adjustment.
Almost certainly it's pretty old.I have no idea what they use but could that friction material be asbestos?
I realized it wasn't cork once it was in bitsI think there is something in there already to protect the threads.Yes, it is an overload clutch. Yes, it is to protect the gearbox. No, it does not need a spring. The jam nut is adequate: that is why it has a grub screw in it so you can lock its position. On reassembly, drop a slug of copper into the hole before the grubscrew to protect the threads on the shaft. It could be cork rather than asbestos.
That’s posh. Greased weetabix box hereHad some time today so made some new gaskets for the gearbox front cover and end plates.

The tools for the job mainly use the little ball pen.

Castings are a bit rough on the inside, but a clean enough cut. Bolts locate the gasket.

Tidy up the outside.

Side plates I used magnets as well as the bolts.

These had a smoother edge so quite a nice clean cut.

Gaskets were treated to a thin smear of grease and everything buttoned up.
Blimey you can afford Weetabix? I have to make do with Lidl's own brandThat’s posh. Greased weetabix box here![]()

I have an ever decreasing supply of nautical charts. They make the best gaskets.Blimey you can afford Weetabix? I have to make do with Lidl's own brand![]()

Better buy them whilst you can as engineers strike at their plants is hitting production apparently.I have an ever decreasing supply of nautical charts. They make the best gaskets.
Yes weetabix. Somethings I will scrimp on. Weetabix is not one![]()
)The old oil smelt like Hypoid. But the only non ferrous in it is the bronze change dog which is above the resting oil level.Be careful about oil selection. Some hypoids eat yellow metal.
