Any central heating experts?

Hi guys, I’ve recently bought a tado wifi central heating thermostat which apparently is very easy for the DIYer

So my first mistake was not to take a picture of the existing setup which I know is a totally rookie error.

It turns out the tado wiring isn’t as easy as it first seemed and I’m basically in over my head. So now we have no heating and the wife is livid.

I was wondering if someone can help to put it back how it was.

This is how it is now and I know the wires on the left are live in but I’m just not sure which way round the other side go?

Find the wiring diagram for the old thermostat as that will tell you have there. You can then correspond that with the new one.

That's a Honeywell Homexpert THR822B - here's its different wiring configurations:

It does depend on what your boiler expects, in particular whether it wants 240v on the call-for-heat or a low-voltage DC. Obviously, getting this wrong would be pretty catastrophic!

To help you further we could do with knowing what the boiler make and model is.

Did you remove a short link wire from between any of the terminals?
If not and you have a combi boiler it looks like the top right diagram is the one you need, you only have two wires to play with on that flex.

Some boilers are volt free, some are 24v and some send 240 out to the stat

As an educated guess I'd say moving the blue wire from C into A might give the desired result.

im with you unless you know how the old one was wired that wiring means nothing unless your prepared to chase the wires with long wires and a mul6timeter at the boiler

so get the old one and look for wiring of it then wire the one you have with the diagrams of skotl

SOrry for not replying guys, its been a hectic week, i also upgraded my router to the new Sky hub max and everything went tits up.

I managed to sort it all out by trial and error (not the best solution i know) but my wife was giving me an ear bashing for making a balls of the job (she's right but i wont admit it to her)

I also managed to get hold of my electrician mate who was on holiday at the time and i have now fitted my new Tado and everything is working beautifully now.
