Is the problem one on ground floor and other upstairs?
We had similar sounding issues, downstairs toilet was backing up and very slow to drain. The backup was caused by water coming from upstairs that couldnt get out, so the bog level rose.

We had a tree root invade the manhole and go up our outlet. A poke with shovel and plenty of water cleared the problem.

I had exactly the same issue in a previous house. Flush upstairs and downstairs would fill to overflowing and exactly the same cause. Turned out that the blockage was in next doors garden and the manhole was hidden by a pot plant. I got it cleared and my landlord was delighted as apparently it had been happening for years, it affected two other houses and he'd always had the neighbours knocking on his door and he'd forked out for the plumber every time!

One of my team's had been trenching on a site, we were accused of damaging a drain that caused a poo fountain in a downstairs flat, had to shift the poor resident to a hotel.

To the surprise of everyone (except me) we hadn't been near the drain and the problem was found to be a neighbour who was flushing nappies

Yes thank you, it was a blockage where it met the drain.. Thank you all..
