Its the way I would go, you can never be sure the block has not got hairline fractures in it when they have been cooked like that. I would bore and liner it, then face off the deck because that is bound to be all over the place, sort out piston height to suit.

It always amazes me how cheap stuff like this is compared to motorcycles engine parts.
That would be over 2K if it were a bike!

It’s not like it’s sub standard gear either. A mate worked for a large aftermarket tractor spares company. Most of what they purchased/supplied came off the same production lines as the OEM gear but without the logo.

Just had my little Kubota engine rebored, looks like it's a liner engine but was advised it's easier and cheaper to just take 0.5 off if it's not had anything horrible done to it. £216 with pistons, not too bad I think.
Proper old machine shop with folk who have done it for years, but moved with the times with online ordering and whatnot. guy was saying he's been there since the 70's but he's still the new boy! Going through to pickup the engine there was a traction engine boiler in the workshop with associated gubbins, stone in the crank grinder was massive! Wish I got some pictures. Anyway, jem engines in Falkirk, nice guys, not very local for you though

Jem engines is where i got the parts for the last kubota engine I reconditioned. They were half the price of anyone around here.

The demand for engine work just isn't there.

Engines are far more reliable, with the majority of vehicles needing no major engine work before reaching end of life.
From a garage perspective, major rebuilds are rarely economically viable. It's far better to simply fit an exchange engine/head. as they take up less labour/workshop space and come with a warranty.

Generally the only garages still doing major engine work, are specialist ones.

My old dad told me many years ago, what happens over there eventually happens over here, take a look around at the amount of over weight people on tv and in real life, then start to pay attention to how daft some people are.

How long before we celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK? We already have Black Friday, but how that morphed into the U.K. is beyond me. We have Prom too, Trick or treat etc, and god knows what else.

I was advised by a local chap to not bother with trying to pull the liners out of the Perkins 1004.4 in my JCB, just let Hargreaves the local machine shop deal with it. Spoke to them and everything was non committal, decided to revert to trusty Bob and we made a puller. Hour and a half back at home and all four liners were out without any significant bother. New liners into freezer for a couple of weeks until I found a roundtuit and just tapped straight in with the puller and a block of wood on top with a small lump hammer.

What @8ob says is true, after his kit turned out to be a turbo one I ordered the correct Perkins kit for an NA engine. Little ends needed reaming and honing, took it to a friend who can do it and he broke out his ex Rolls Royce measuring kit I'd dug out the specs from Perkins and his kit was accurate to a minimum 0.01mm. The calibration gauge was stamped to 0.001mm and you could determine a bit more accurate than 0.01mm on the vernier but it wasn't reliable. Suffice to say the cheap after rebuild kit via Parts4Engines was smack on Perkins' actual spec. If we wanted to measure it more accurately it was going to need some serious equipment.

Norway has lost all its actual mechanics. Now they just swap new parts.

Part4engines are pretty good, all my boat service stuff comes from them.

last engine I wanted bored I was quoted £50 a bore, it was a V8 Rover, so £400. Just not viable at that price, it turned out that the block was knackered, so took it no further.

Back in the days before I had the right gear I took a motorcycle cylinder into work and took it to the metrology lab to see if they had anything to measure the bore, he broke out the Faro arm and measured it to 4 decimal places!
