Another question

Hi again.

I decided to take the side off my clarke 200t mig welder to have a look and

noticed that one of the cables going to 3 big blue things has broken off and the plastice on the wire has melted.

my question is what are the blue can shaped things?

the connector that goes onto the capacitors seems stuck will i damage anythink if i put much pressure on it?
and if it needs a new capacitors is it cheap and easy to fit?

they seem to be riveted so if i were you i would get a new connection drill a new hole and re rivet or use a nut and bolt

They are easy to fit , but not cheap.

looks soldered on from the pic. The caps wont be damaged its just over loaded the connection if a cap had gone it would have blown to bits

The connector just has flat head screw in it but i cannot undo it.

but the remains of the connector is loose.

can you just drill new hole's in capacitors?

Where's best if i needed to get another capacitor

drill and bolt through the connecting bar between the caps

no dont drill the capacitor drill the bar that connects them all together

Id try cleaning the remains off of that wire on there and soldering it back on the rail. Wouldnt fancy trying to drill the screw head out. I reckon maplins would be best bet for a new cap.

Or as whats just been said wouldnt be abad idea either.

a cap that size RS or CPC if there is no melting on the case then the cap is fine

its looks like where the wire broke and might of been arc'ing it might of corroded a bit.

i think you will have to try to tighten that capacitor up on the bar saying that though i think they are rviets and not screws so you will have to devise some way of doing it otherwise it will get worse

they are bolt like screw as i just undid the 2 to the other capacitors but cannot undo that one.

hmm could be a little tricky then you could try working back and forth but be carefull it may well snap heat will have caused it.
you could try taking it off and use a little penetrating oil

if its tight to the cap and bar leave it less likely to damage any thing its probity welded it self in place
