Hi guys,
I have googled a bit and everyone points to ask on here,
I do all the mechanics on my classic mini and my friends but the one skill I'm lacking and it's killing me is welding, I'm in the Channel Islands and I have tried to look at courses but there are none, the only one I could do is 4 days a week and it's going back to school, which is kind of hard as I'm a fireman hah! ,
Anyway I have some repairs that need doing to my mini and I want to tackle them myself one for cost as in the long run it will be cheaper and two because welding is something I have always wanted to know how to do,
I have asked for money from my wife and family for Xmas which will be going on a welder, I guess my budget is probably around £350 but that's to include a mask and gloves,
I really need to know what welder to look at, I'm VAT free over in jersey but I do pay my own tax (5%) on anything over £240, my parents are off to England for Xmas so getting ken from the mainland may be a choice.....
Can anyone start explaining and a few that would look at? I have researched a bit and it seems like I need something with a low current of 30 Amps being able to do. Ore 0.6 wire, and gas.
Also as I'm going to be self taught, any good books...youtube videos that are going besides the mini restoration which helps with mini welding but no fundamentals.
Cheers and thanks
Craig
