Another new scam

Just now I recived a call on my mobile form a spurious number, I didn't answer our of suspicion. Googled the number and found this:

"If you receive a call to your mobile from: +95 748396 then do not answer call. You'll be charged £1.25p if you accept the call. It's a new scam and the calling country is Burma. It's sweeping the nation right this minute"

How can you be charged for an premium rate incoming call ? Are you legally obliged to pay it ?

Heard on radio 4 today, Scammers are stealing mobile phones then ringing their own exorbitantly priced premium phone numbers, one guy that didn't report his phone stolen early enough hade a bill of £1700-00 racked up!!
P.S. the provider was EE.

A few years ago I got a bill from t mobile for £600, for 3 days mobile internet access. They told me it was physically impossible, but they sold it to a debt collection agency who chased me for a year, the xxxxxx's. They gave up , and sold the debt to another debt collector, they got nowt as well !

they'll have to put some credit on my phone before they can make some money out of me......make me laugh when 3 phone me up to take out a contract when I say I use £10 on pay as you go, they'll then offer me a bargain contract, and I say its £10 a year, not a month.

You can't be charged a premium for accepting a random incoming call.

I got a call asking if I'd been in an accident in the past 3 years that wasn't my fault... I told them I was driving around Rainbow road in the standard cart when someone behind me blue shelled me and I fell of the side of the track (Mario Kart). They hung up.

I had a call from the same number on Monday, just let it go to VM as it was a weird number.

my phone dont acept witheld numbers and if any show out of aeria we dont answer it .all the crap calls are normaly between 5 and 6 pm . if anyone wants me they normaly ring back later

Spent a few days with some good friends recently we got on to the subject of unwanted calls.
One of the paths offered was ....

" Just a like to do a little survey about your Mortgage Service Sir , it will only take two minutes ...I promise you " ,
Answered with a strong Somerset accent as :-

Mortgage oh yes oooh arrr ,That's where you store those dead folk ain't it. All those mysterious dead folk arrrrr .
Well I don't be needed no mortgage service , cos I'm alive .
( Hushed voice very sinvcere ) Mind ere that old bitch nex door , don't think she is , she an alien . but don't you worry non fer me I got my silver foil hepmnet on and a real copper coin in me lef and . Them aliens ain't going to get me into no mortgage not no mater wat theys a goung to try an do ..cos I got me silver helmet on an a real copper coin in me and.

The caller hung up .

Well , I took a similar stance tonight when I got two cold calls about 20.15 hrs ( I was expecting a call from a friend after 20.00 hrs )
I think the second call was from the first person .

Rite I'm off ' t Tesco 24/7 right now fer sum mur tin foil , I'm gonna mek the helmets much stronger this time round.

Had some one else asking earlier today if they could speak to Alison , Mrs Alison G.....

Poor bugger ... He must have had a shock when I tore into him for being her fancy man & that if I ever caught up with him I'd string him up by his balls.

Also had a bit of fun with with this several times of late.
" So how did you come to knew the deceased , what was your relationship with them ? Think very carefully for this is being recorded , what you say may be given in evidence . How did you get this number , who are you ?"

I ignore withheld and international calls - if they're important they can leave a message. Any calls that turn out to be spam I tell them I'm ex-directory and on the TPS and not to ring again. I put them in the phone's directory as "Spam n" and ignore further calls from them. I also keep a log of my spam calls so I can report consistent offenders.

If I get cold callers (landline) double glazing or PPE for instance, I answer the phone and after their first pitch I say "Oh yes I am interested please just give me a moment" I then put the phone down, but don't hang up and go and have my tea or watch TV for a while. It would be interesting to know how long they wait.

I got two calls today in a lesson so I couldn't speak but I answered and could hear them in my headphones - they said hello for about 2 minutes before they hung up.
