Oh I don't know. Previous place I worked I think the average cost to send an envelope or small parcel to the client in the UK was just shy of £500.

But then again it had to be a two man carry, point-to-point delivery, not allowed to stop. If the recipient(s) weren't there then they had to turn around and come back.

Having said that we often ship shotgun cartridges through the normal pallet networks. Classified as non hazardous. And yet we have trouble sending CO2 cylinders
The MOD use us now and then for the odd pallet. We had to tell them that missiles and rocket pods should not go through a pallet network if live

And another incredible thing. Diamond merchants often send uncut stones through normal post. They say it is safer as it is completely anonymous. Record and special delivery etc are a target.

We have lost probably £100,000 over the years down to people lying about the size of their parcels or pallets.
It is NOT a victimless crime.
Of course the couriers are all evil and the public sweet and innocent.
The number of insurance scams we have had is just as bad.
And then people say the prices are too high

as I said years ago and not something I would do again ,I was skint at the time due to a haulier going bust(went down for millions) and taking me and a lot of others with him ,so needed the part to sell the machine, prices for couriers arent expensive and pallet prices are soo economical, you only have to consider collecting something say 160 miles away yourself with a van/tail lift to put it into perspective.

Nope, I'll just say that all drivers had to be cleared to a fairly significant level.

It amazes me how even supposedly decent and honourable people think couriers are fair game.
We had a vicar's wife in Scotland try to claim £500 for a damaged oak sideboard. A bit of a chunk out of one of the feet. It would have been on the side against the wall anyway. She had quotes to get it professionally restored and everything back to it's former glory.
When we asked her for the purchase receipt it turned out she paid £40 for it
And the chunk was missing in the original photos

used to take parts and paperwork up to town for a company , multi drops mostly, office guy oh take this up to xyz, is that it I ask ,yup ,nothing else just this , so I take it up , invoice them . Oh were not paying you didnt take the part to go with, hmm, charged them extra £10 on every job after that. Same firm there were two lads in the office , I would rush around no breaks eat a sandwhich on the run, get back if lucky at 4pm to be greated by whats taken you so long , blah blah every single time , got fed up with these boys , so next trip I said yes to every coffee offered, stopped 15mins at 11am, 1/2 hour for lunch , more tea and chats at all the drops. Got back , damn that was quick didnt expect you back before 6 that just proved to me what idiots in office dont know about the real world of multi drops in central london.
