Exactly.
She has had a response to say that there had been a fire at a depot within the delivery trail ( couldn't tell her where though) . Why not just say that in the first place.

I have a feeling this parcel will end up lost

Great, ordered something from Amazon this afternoon , received an email around 9pm from them telling me it had been dispatched, followed an hour later by an email from My Hermes telling me they have received my parcel from Amazon.

A very good mate of mine runs a DPD franchise. He’s got depots at Highwycome and Cranford.
When the big routing waggon arrives with the head office driver the parcels are carefully (yes really) unloaded using the conveyor and neatly stacked in driver / delivery bays.
When he goes and the individual vans are loaded it’s a whole different storey. Let’s just say loading by pitch fork is the norm and anything marked fragile means throw harder

Bubble wrap. They managed to bang a few decent size dents into it just for good measure but breaking it open has effectively destroyed it.
They hung onto it for a few days as it had been "routed to incorrect depot". Presumably they do this to cover their tracks or am I just being a cynic. Maybe they have a department for inspecting contents.
Should have been on a pallet. You just don't post stuff like that!
And I bet it wasn't attempted theft - more like dropped.
Remember 95% of all problems comes from bad packaging.
We often get customers coming to us saying they have stopped using such and such courier because they keep damaging our stuff. I tell them in no uncertain terms that it is more than likely their packing methods.

No and I think someone tried to lift it by the handle, ripped the top off and dropped it upside down off the back of a lorry.
When they delivered it, I heard them coming but he was gone before I could reach the front door. Spent two weeks trying ti ge5 them to pay for the damage (it is ruined). But they promise to pay then never go5 back to me. Then denied it, then lost the transcript of the online discussion, which I had copied because they did that exact same trick before, then said the advisor had been incorrect then.... you get the picture, an entire department dedicated to wasting your time.

Here is a tip for everyone.
NEVER ship something like that as a parcel.
It might cost a bit more on a pallet but it is far safer.
And if it is on casters you either need to place a wooden board on the pallet to stop the wheels coming through the slats or even remove the casters first.
This is a 300kg Tig Welder I bought years ago - bloke said he knew how to palletise it. The bit of blue rope is what he used
Now I always demand photos.
The wheels went through the original pallet. The depot stuck it on the blue one with a strap over - miracle it didn't go over.

I had to sell it as my 3 phase supply wasn't man enough.
Here is my packing. Notice the wheels chocked along with banding and a strap!

I havent lost any parcels sent by hemes mostly because I rarely use them, saying that all my parcels others have sent have arrived , the local ladies always knock my door and ask me to get it out of their car as they are mostly to heavy for them to lift. I must admit to a slight naughtiness years back, ordered the hydraulic block for my digger, it was somemething like 40kg, I marked down 14 kg , van arrived young guy comes in , sighn this and can you help me get it out of the van , of course I couldnt resist and lifted it and walked of as if it was nothing , got out of site and dropped it on a pallet PDQ , wouldnt get away with it now and wouldnt try.

it was the lads face when I picked it up, he said it took two to to load it , I just tried to make out like it was only 15kg and couldnt uderstand why he thought it heavy, damn near done me in though

The Hermes chap we have now is pretty good and will deliver late into the evening, he even has a van for the job. The previous one used a VW Polo and was not so fussy about making sure the address was correct or that the items arrived in one piece.

not hermes , but i ordered something from china last september , got fed up waiting and had a refund , guess what it turned up this week
We have lost probably £100,000 over the years down to people lying about the size of their parcels or pallets.
It is NOT a victimless crime.
Of course the couriers are all evil and the public sweet and innocent.
The number of insurance scams we have had is just as bad.
And then people say the prices are too high
