A great angry song of love, loss and bitterness.
There is some sickening ballad version of it escaping onto the airwaves.

Totally agree Chunko, mainstream radio today is utter *****, hence why I decided to have my Pure dab iPod dock in there, I can now have 8 gb of anything I choose to listen to from Holst to Black Sabbath.......heaven

Quite agree Chunky, mainstream radio really gets my goat up big time.

Strikes me people are totally gullable in being told whats good for them, even worse from one station i was subjected to for years 'more music variety' means playing same old poxy records hour after hour, day in day out, week after week, month after month, year after year over multiple decades. Drove me round the frigging bend 12 year ago. Came to the point i could guess of 3 records what was going to be played next. More so end the hour with a chart record then go to news then when finished play same record before the news.

Wish i had DAB in the car had it since its inception many years ago at home. Think we have 7 DABs 3 portable MP3 size plus a Cowan D3 32Gb DAB 4 yr old. The Roberts is relegated to the workshop last two years must be 9 yr old. Get 47 stations here try Planet Rock even that gets repetitive.

Hmm, difficult! Most people did Dylan better than Dylan. Especially Joan Baez.

What about 'Changing of the Guards'? Anybody ever cover that?

I am not a fan of Bowie in general but his cover of Springsteens Hard to be a saint in the city is a classic. In general I don't mind covers too much as they probably get the listener to discover music they wouldn't normally seek out.

Rod Stewart was one half of one of the greatest song writing duos this county has ever had but all he has done for the last 20 years is covers, and while his version of Tom Trauberts Blues isn't my cup of tea if it means someone digs out Heart attack and vine then I don't see how it can be a bad thing.

I would say this is more important with youth though. I know a lad in his 20s who loves Slade but he only sought to listen to them after he heard Oasis doing cum on feel the noize. If that lad then picks up a guitar and is influenced by that then that can only be good for the future.

I must admit it's hard to find any excuse for Madonnas American pie though.

Madonna's massacre set me off on a similar thread when it came out. I think I referred to her as 'that silicone bitch' a phrase I was quite pleased with at the time.

It's a tiresome trend that seems to have either been started by an ******** advertising exec(they LOVE these dreary, cardboard cutout, breathy, inaudible, usually female covers of songs which did nothing to deserve this dogs' abuse) or possibly many advertising execs have girlfriends who do the "I'm a struggling singer/songwriter" thing and get them to murder some songs for adverts.
