Today's topic is angle grinders.
95 percent of my works is done with the use of a angle grinder. My beloved bosch pro finally gave up after 6+ years of hard graft. I will look in to getting it repaired. I had no choice but to buy another one. Ss usual everywhere lists everything but have fk all in stock. Today I will be putting a dewalt DWE4206 angle grinder to the test.

I fixed my Bosch one a few months back new gears was all it needed parts are easily obtainable well worth fixing it IMO

I did however buy a couple of aldi 125mm grinders. Both lasted about a week before going pop...

warenty is great on those 3 years they just send you new ones!

That's the best with Bosch, you can easily find parts for them online.

My experience with DeWalt is they are a bit heavier but run with less vibration and noise.
Haven't had a blue Bosch to compare with for many years though.

the bosch pro are lovely to use light and no vibrations really.
compare that to a aldi one the vibrations are shocking!

My choice is the Metabo 115mm grinders as they seem to vibrate a lot less than the blue Bosch I used before.

From visuals the bosch pro is slightly shorter and has a bigger diameter case . Nice weight to the dewalt and more power from the motor. The on/off switch on both is great as I do sometimes use it with one hand.

I've used Aldi grinders, am still using them now, but I suspect not doing as much with them as the OP, and that's probably the key difference. My current one was bought, along with a spare which is still in the box, in 2014. As @123hotchef mentioned, the warranty is great, I've had replacements in the past, just email the proof of purchase and they send a replacement. My local store had them in last weekend, proper mains ones, £25.

My first angle grinder was a "Black and Decker Professional" which lasted for years, and would still be going if the mains cable hadn't broken up around the end of the strain relief. It's a weird cable and I haven't been able to find one. I can get one from a B&D spares agent, but it's around £40 - at the time I checked, that was the cost of two grinders from Aldi. I'd like to get it going again because I've got quite a few 100mm discs for it, but not enough to spend that.

In fairness the aldi was cheap. Did ok for a few days until the verible speed packed up and was stuck in flatout mode. But just not cut out for heavy works. But for 20 quid what can you say.

Not helpful in the slightest[1] but my favourite is a Champion 1050w 115mm which has seen very heavy use and still going great. I will be gutted when it eventually dies.


[1] Seeing as it was an "own brand" model for Focus DIY and they closed ten years ago in July 2011!

So far so good. Really nice soft start and power delivery. Very quiet and hardly any vibrations.

1 grinder is NEVER enough, 3 is getting there, 5 is probably enough but then what about a 9 inch? a cut off........

longer life on a grinder is best achieved by stripping and cleaning out all the filings/grit from the motor/brush gear every now and then .thats if its a bosch or something worth while

See the wife has over done it again on the thumb screws Spencer I have a couple of 110v dewalt 115 grinders and they are still going strong after 10 years of abuse. slightly chunky compared to modern but well made nonetheless.

To be fair you need at least 3 115 ones, one for a slitting disk one for grinding and one for wirewheel. It wasn’t until I got enugh grinders to do this I realised when a godsend it was! Then someone gives you 100 7 inch grinding disks so you get one of them...then you buy 1000 5 inch slitting disks on offer so need a 5 inch then the 9 for big work

I bought an Aldi grinder years ago, and gave it plenty of work until it came to a halt!! Quick check revealed that only the brushes warn out, Repaced the brushes that were supplied extra when new, and back to full operation,Its a little large diameter for long time one handed use, I have always found Makita grinders to be pretty good, and I have quite a few of them, Nice slim body too,

Screwfix used to sell ‘em for £9 a decade or so ago, 3 years warrant, but I never returned one.For that price i’d just buy a brand new one. Nowadays their cheapest is £30 or so.

I keep 3 on the go, cut off disc, flap disc and grinding disc, on a little rack so I can use them at the bench vice area with ease.

I bought one of those dewalts , the 1050w or there about , and find it just to be too big , plenty of piff in it , and the slow starts nice , but too big .
I still like the Bosch gws 115 , I think they are 750w but so so slim and easy to hold , I only get a couple of years out of them though , great for cutting with laser discs but not great at flap disking , Ive a fein to give a work out to as well , but with about 24 115mm grinders Ive not got round to it yet ,,,
