Afternoon everyone.
Follow up for the dewalt grinder..I have been putting it through its paces last week and I must day its been very good. Currently cutting a load of 100x60x3mm box. The weight of the grinder is nice. Very smooth and no blade wondering. Almost all of my works is with an angle grinder so I really on something half sensible. Cuts are really nice and still got the same 0.8 disc after a lot of cuts.

I use flexovit 0.8. A very nice disc to use

yep same as I use but I dont get that sort of life out of them ,,

Ive a Bosch that i really rated but it died on me so got a Makita instead and much impressed with it over the Bosch, now on year 11 with it but only ever use it for cutting so may help with the lifespan and i restore old vw's so lots of use! I also have an Argos and a B&Q set of cheapies too, each has a different tool so cutting, flap wheel and twist knot brush. My son has learnt to also have a selection and his Bosch runs coarser if that's the word compared with the Makita. He also has the DeWalt and i'm switching to that next burn out, it runs really smooth, feels good in your hand, doesn't want to run away from you or anything like that

Wouldn't an Evolution Rage TCT chopsaw, or even a Pedrazzoli cold saw be more suitable for that kind of work?

Cold saw yes. Evolution rage I can't stand the things. My first tool I ever brought when I was 17 was an angle grinder. All these years its all I use.

I am impressed with the dewalt. The weight is just right and very well balanced. I probably will over time buy a few more. But currently I can't really fault the dewalt and I always been a bosch pro kind of guy

Cold saw yes. Evolution rage I can't stand the things.

I converted a car-boot-sale chop saw from wood-cutting to steel-cutting. It is an Italian "Alfa 250 Troncatrice", like this one:

It has a 1 hp 3,000 rpm induction motor, which is slow and quiet compared to the usual 4,000+ rpm AC brush motors used in Evolution saws. I replaced the 10 inch TCT wood blade with a 9 inch steel-cutting blade. It slices almost silently through steel, leaving straight and very clean edges with hardly any burrs.
