Mike the problem is that 90% of the audience are not enthusiasts so therefor have to be entertainedjust the way of the world these days I'm afraid.
Apparently the americans love drama and conflict in their shows, it appears it doesn't matter if that drama is real or not.
What happened to good old fashioned informative programmes? The likes of Dibnah, (in his later years), didn't do any of that crap, and they made several series with him.
Our lot are just as bad. Try watching daytime TV sometime and see if you can survive two hours without wanting to hang yourself, (or wanting to kill the pillocks on the box).
No Sean I'm not involved, I got contacted by the producers initially because of my 30 years in the film/tv business [/QUOTE
Didn't know you were involved in the film/tv industry Steve, so did your rod building just start off as a hobby then outside of your normal job....? And ended up taking over.
You got a pm Sean
yea its cheaper to buy in stock frames and modify them if needed . not all products are worth producing even if u have the gearI only just got into watching American Chopper. Not sure what the other programmes mentioned are like or about, I generally don't watch too much TV. I agree about the drama, I don't know what they are trying to achieve by showing some of the obviously well rehearsed tantrums. The episode I watched recently was just getting to a tricky piece of fabrication when for the next 5 mins it focussed on one of the sons visits to the dentist. wtf?!
The other thing with OCC, I might be wrong, but they seem to buy a lot of their frames in which seems a strange thing for a fabrication shop to do, anyone know if there is a reason for that?
I'm not knocking the show by the way it obviously works, but it certainly is frustrating for us non celebrity farbicators.

Yhey bought a lot of their parts , frames , mudguards etc from another chopper builders in the southern states , alabama i think , i can't remember their name. Discovery did a program on them as well and they did have some skilled fabricators.
I'll throw another name in here - what does everyone think of Chip Foose? I like the guy personally even though I havn't met him. I didnt like overhauling though, you can't rebuild a car in 7/8 days without overlooking certain things!
Also the latest 2 episodes of Chasing Classic cars has that AMAZING painter that used to work at Boyds - Charlie? He has his own shop (looks awesome) and was comissioned to restore 2 of boyds old rods. He's painted riddler winners I believe, I've alot of respect for him.
great fan of all mentioned and lets not knock them, they do a fair job. Except Nub who is a very talented guy. The two not mentioned which should be entitled modern day westerns is Chop shop ( would love to see any one of those cars 24 months on) and Desert Kings. (some incredibly dodgy techniques especially in the paint 'shop').
