I disagree. I would confidently say the set is not causing the contamination issues. Whether I like them or not the only way the unit is causing that problem is if there is an internal gas leak. It's a classic and bad case of contamination and it can be a number of things which I would almost certainly check before wasting time sending it back. The R/Tech set I tested for someone a few months back, seemed to have pretty much exactly the same problems as the OPs machine. First thing checked was gas, and that was working fine, checked all the other obvious things and couldnt find anything wrong at all. As it was still under warranty I suggested the owner to speak to R-Tech about the problems, which he did, and defective set was collected, and within a few days a working one was returned. I would suggest speaking to R-Tech sending the pics posted on here, and as I think its probably an issue they have dealt with several times before, it will get sorted pretty quickly.
In terms of a torch Parweld Pro series are head and shoulders above anything from R-Tech, have flexible rubber lines rather than vinyl, and a good leather sheath over the metre closest to the torch, and can be supplied to fit your machine exactly with no need to spend £30-40 extra on adapters. If set is aircooled then Parweld equivalent to a WP9 will work fine, and if watercooled Parweld version of WP20. Parweld Pro torch will cost around £100. Footpedal from R-Tech is very poor quality, but cheap. If you want a better one try: http://hortonws.jimdo.com/ who can supply footpedal's to fit almost any machine, and can also assist with Parweld torch.
If the set is out of warranty, it might be possible to repair it, but very often faulty inverter sets are not economical to repair, so bearing in mind OP location, it might be a better idea to look at buying new Parweld or Thermal Arc 202?

1) gas is pure argon
2) all joints leak tested
3) gas flow at TORCH 6-8lpm
4) Parent material is clean
5) rods are clean
6) parent material/rods not moisturised (throw them) buy new.
7) correct balance range on unit 30% cleaning works. (EP)
If all those simple checks appear to be clear then send your unit away but I would say one or more of the above will resolve the issue.
Remember keep a tight arc as long arc length will effect shielding but looking at the pics it's more serious than a bit of bad torch technique.
No problem. Pls let me know how you get on. Be interesting to see what resolves the issue.Thx Rich
Going to order a peashooterNo problem. Pls let me know how you get on. Be interesting to see what resolves the issue.
OrderedWhat about using a pea shooter at the end of the ceramic.Might help to see if you are receiving correct gas pressure?
I would suggest checking if you have gas flow to torch. If you cant hear the gas coming out of the ceramic, then turn up the pressure till you can. Next check the gas connections are all tightened properly. If all is well attempt a weld pool on DC neg setting on clean mild steel. See how that works out. If gas is flowing, there are no leaks, and DC weld pool looks iffy, then its likely to either be contaminated or wrong gas, or an issue with the set.
Where and how are you keeping the filler rods.[/QUOTE
The filler rods are in a plastic chamber. But two of the rods where out side Richard.
Acetone and stinless steel wire brush to get contamination off.
