what colour tungsten did you use for the aluminium?

I did the gas flow to the torch Chris priest the foot pedal it was coming out of the ceramic. Checked the gas connection all tight proper. Just did the weld pool on stainless steel it was good.Must be contamination.

Try weld pool on aluminium, but make sure all pulse settings turned off, and about 60hz frequency. Dont introduce any rod, just see if it forms a pool ok. If it forms a pool, then cut a thin sliver of material from the sheet you are using for test, and see if that will work as filler. Its also worth making 100% certain you have the right gas, and the alloy you have for test is weldable grade.

I think that's 2% lathinated for ac/dc, if you have been using it for stainless and mild you may want to put a fresh tungsten in the torch or switch to a white zirconiated 1% for aluminium.

Don`t know what you think about lathinated tungstans but our aluminium welders have found that the re-stike is not any where near as good as zirconium

Dont put too much focus on what tungsten being used at the moment.

You can put in any tungsten type and still wouldnt get anything near the second pic.

More important that you clean and re-grind your tip everytime you get anything like the pics.
Even if you try something different that solve the root cause your beads will still look like crap with a contaminated tip.
