Could be filtered with a coffee pot paper filter.

That would explain the taste of some filter coffees...

I use it as cutting fluid on the bandsaw and drill.

if I had too much, I'd do as Dr Nik suggested - convert to heat + CO2 +h2o in my recycling centre. (WVO burner).
A couple of litres chucked in the nearly full fuel tank of the transit probably would hurt too much, either - AFTER filtering!

If you filter waste veg oil to use as fuel in an older type diesel engine you can add the fluid to the oil before the final filtering stage. The same goes for ATF and sump oil, although the latter should go into the mix at the settling stage so that any real gunk settles out before final filtering. I've run several cars on this witch's brew for years with few problems. The only thing to remember is that the addition of 5% unleaded can keep the viscosity low enough to not overcome the seals in the injector pump. The best pumps for this use are the Bosch or Japanese copies made under license from Bosch (Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc.).

You could keep it for use as a lubricating fluid to use on a sharpening stone. The grit wouldnt matter there. (would it ?)

There's a good possibility it could clog the stone. Not worth risking knacking a good sharpening or honing stone.

Being a Yorkshireman, I can understand the sentiment well enough, but there are limits. Personally, I use all my old oil/Dexron fluids for starting off garden bonfires and the like. Gets shut of it and serves a purpose into the bargain.

That's about the best suggestion for it so far, IMO, along with burning it in some fashion. It's something which would be wiped off after use, as a matter of course, so the contaminant shouldn't be a problem.
