Yeah I suppose that's the main thing, if it's not hot cracking with whatever you're doing, then it's a good chance of being ok.I've had alloys that have cracked immediately after welding, right down the centre, change to 4043 or 5356 and no more issue.
Unlike some rotten, stinking cast alloy sumps I've tried to weld... hot cracking immediately, no matter which filler full of zinc and pot metal!
