Thes are the new 'big thing. I was watching ' Morning live' the other day. The guy took a basket for want of a better word out of the bottom of it. This revealed the inside. What I saw was an electric cooker element with a big fan above it. What's to stop me getting a couple of hot air guns, bolting them into a frame above an old saucepan? It's the same thing surely?

in one of my old jobs ,,, we always had a job on a fryday afternoon that needed the forge lit ,,,

In a years time they will be in the cupboard under the stairs, gathering dust. Or filling the shelves of charity shops or seciond hand shops.
If you look how much it saves per use. Set that agiast the cost of buying it the returns are in the scale of months or years.

@optima21 you are right of course, the amount of faffing about. It will be cheaper to go and buy one. I've got too many projects on to have a go at it, I was just mussing as you do.
@tom2207 we do this on our medieval shows for breakfast. but we have a huge frying pan, so we don't lose the eggs in the fire, sausage, bacon eggs, set us up for the day.

Are we "the collective" sure about that. 95% of the time I use my air fryer. But mine was only 30 quid before the frenzy.
It does seem that it would be a lot cheaper to run than an oven.
Not a rant. You raise a very good point. Lots of 'stuff' ends up either clogging the back of cupboards or. as you say. in charity shops that they then can't sell and ends up in landfill.

Our 5 yr old £35 airfryer is heavily used for meats & veg as well as reheating the occasional soggy fish & chips from the chippy etc It's very versatile and takes a fraction otnh time an oven might ..it also browns very nicely .
We got it mainly because it can sit on the counter top for easy access with a small foot print as I do not bend or stoop easily theses days and also that there would be less heat in the kitchen ( diabetic heat control probs ) . The pans and racks can go in the dishwasher with the rest of the pots and pans for a low rate overnight wash .

My oven is 3 kw IIRC my airfryer is 1kw halogen tube & fan blown .
It certainly cooks far quicker than using an oven .
We don't really need an oven big enough to take a turkey able to feed 9 -12 people anymore.
Alison says when we have a kitchen refit, we will do away with the oven and tower cabinet, using the freed-up space for other things, to perhaps have more under the top cupboards & counter or more likely add two tall vertical pull out trayed cabinets in its place so we have a bank of three pullout storage tall drawer units instead.
The current one is 17 yrs. old, now has a few curled up plastic veneers, is partly made of compressed cardboard end panels & trimmings with almost worn through work tops that have slightly bubbled at places the routed in joints that were supposed to be waterproof sealed . Even perhaps just using extra 2 foot gained to give easier access to 1964 G plan six seater extending table

Nonsense. In my kitchen it's become my most used appliance next to the kettle and m'wave, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

That's about the size of it. I love fried fish and chips, but making them conventionally slowly kills me. Air-frying with just a tip of oil turns them out well-cooked and nice.if like me you eat too much fried food, (i love anything with chips), these are supposed to be the healthy option, lots of people i know have them and they all rate them so i will end up getting an "unwanted gift" when christmas is over
I've become a little bit picky about what Aldi chips I use, though.
Which ones do you favour.

They were in Aldi today as well, I spoke to one of the workers there yesterday, she said that the first 3 people in the queue when they open the doors at 9am will be given a ticket allowing them to buy one. The stores were only getting 3 each.
The double fronted Ninja’s are like hens teeth, people are buying as many as they can and flipping them on eBay and gumtree for a £50 mark up.
