Hi All,
I am the proud owner of a new Sealey MightyMig150.
I have been practising on and off for a couple of days and can lay nice looking beads down on flat steel ( my practice stuff is 2mm thick sheet ) but i can't seem to get it to penetrate the whole thickness.
I have tried all voltage settings and wire speed from 2-8 but i just can't seem to get it to penetrate. Am i right in thinking that this welder should be powerful enough to blow holes in this thickness steel?
I have a small piece of 1mm thick sheet that i did manage to blow a hole in but that was at top voltage and wire speed 7.
I have tried a couple of joints, 2x fillets and 1x butt weld. The fillets were ok as i wasn't trying for penetration i was just practising following the corner, the butt weld i left a gap of approximately 1mm (2mm steel) and it barely penetrated through for a tiny part of the weld again this was top voltage and wire speed 6-7.
I have tried zigzag welds but i find i am most comfortable welding in a small spiral as i travel along the steel. I don't find any increase in penetration which method i use.
I am using 0.6mm wire with a CO2 shielding gas.
I will try and upload some pics once i trimmed em down as they are bluddy huge atm
Any advice appreciated Rich.
