Adapter for used cutting discs

I can not find the post anymore not through lack of using the search function.

Any way some one on here made up a adapter to use used cutting discs in a air cut off tool.

I was just looking for the pics so ?I can make one for myself.

I can’t imagine it will look anything different than a washer with a step machined in to centre the disc on the smaller spindle. And maybe another washer to clamp it.

Eh. Use the existing mandrel from the air grinder ad a pattern but size the rebate to fit the part worns

A stupid question here, how small before I should stop using a cut off disc in the angle grinder? Ive got several of the ultra thin ones and the smallest is 80mm, ideal for cutting thin sheet but Im aware the speed will be wrong and mostly in the cordless so far slower than it should be at this size.

will be ok just wont cut as fast and wear out quicker . less surface speed the smaller it gets

i stop when it dont cut anymore the grinder hits the work! some are probably 40-50mm

There are plenty of adapters on eBay to fit angle grinder discs to a drill spindle:

Instead of an air cut-off tool, you could put something like that in the collet chuck of an air die grinder. However, those adapters all seem to be for the smaller discs with 16mm centre hole, not 22mm - i.e. the discs for angle grinders that are threaded M10 not M14.

yes the ones i have all used are 22mm bore for a m14 nut

I made an adaptor for a friend who is a local groundworks contractor when last week he found that his sparkly new petrol cut off saw had a 20 mm spindle, and his big heap of spare 300 mm diamond disks were 1". Just a simple fat washer to dimensions but without it his job was stopped dead.

How DO people manage without a lathe

Don't forget it is likely you could be exceeding the maximum speed for the disk.

I totally get the whole use every bit ethos but cutoff discs aren't expensive.

I overworked a 9” disc, it shattered and hit me in the throat I thought it was going to be worse than a bright red love bite it left and didn’t break the skin oddly my pants filled up very quickly

I’m guilty of overworking 4 1/2 discs and run them on my air cut off tool and they shatter all the time due to the excess speed

This is the result of something spinning faster that is should and exploding. It was a fidget spinner that I held and blasted with the airline. Clearly ran too fast. Totally my own fault being stupid but it shows what can happen
