I did wonder.
That makes more sense. The government have invested in it. They will close it down in a fortnight.
There has not been a 200m Hazard Zone maintained for 24 hours at an incident since 22nd April 2007.
This was also the last time crews failed to identify the contents of a cylinder until the 24 hour cooling was completed.
the cone IS hot enough but the flame doesnt provide a "shield" around the weld poolu cant weld with propane the center cone isnt hot enough but u can braze with it no problem and the flames clean . flux is used to clean the joint anyhow irispective of what gas used or how its heated
propane releases only a small proportion of its heat in the inner flame cone less than 10 percent so most of the heat in the flame is located in the outer cone . acetylene releases 40 percent of its heat in the inner flame conethe cone IS hot enough but the flame doesnt provide a "shield" around the weld pool
I was told at a BOC depot 2 weeks ago while picking up the Volkszone bottle that acetylene was being brought in from abroad, But BOC were building a new plant in the UK.
You can get little ones over here in France in the small ad's as a lot of garages had their own generators setup in days gone by to save cylinder rental costs.AFAIK you need a Home Office licence for acetylene generators. Assuming that's the case i'd have thought that if you were to get caught they'd throw the book at you followed by the bookcase and then the library
