The problem with all modern cars regardless of propulsion system is they are crap tbh. It doesn't matter if the battery doesn't really deteriorate for 10 years when everything around falls apart.
Seeing as noone seems to actually buy cars anymore it would surely make more sense to design cars with a 20year realistic lifespan on 20year lease deals.

With as many shared components as possible.

How many different starter motors/radiators/wheel nut spacing/seats/etc etc etc are there currently.

Some of the big players share anyway. Look at the traffic vivaro and whatever the Nissan is

Fiat and iveco.

No idea on cars as have no interest in cars

It could happen if we had governments on this planet who weren't in someones pocket to push it through.

Volvo released actual data of the CO2 produced to make one of their EVs, it was 26tonnes. Average car is about 18tonnes. I was just doing the maths in my head, I've not got this from anywhere.

Cars used to share lots of bits, when there were lots of different makers in the UK. the same Joe Lucas electrical components were used by BMC, Hillman, Rover, etc. It is comparatively recently that each make/model has to have their own front and rear lights, so they can charge what they like for replacements. I'm sure German companies would be buying off the shelf stuff from Bosch back in the 1960s, Ferrari famously used Fiat tail lamps and, unjustly in my opinion, Lotus were criticised for using off the shelf bits from other makers.

Ah, OK, found the Volvo release but it’s presented a bit differently to how I read it above…

Volvo Cars published the life cycle assessment of the new Volvo C40 Recharge it makes in Belgium. One of the key findings is that even when the C40 Recharge is charged with electricity from the global energy mix, its carbon footprint, including production and recycling, is lower than that of a combustion engine.

Nevertheless, both models are clearly below conventionally powered vehicles: the Volvo XC40 with combustion engine, for example, has 59 tonnes of CO2 over its life cycle. The so-called “end-of-life” emissions and the share of production in the Volvo factories are the same regardless of the type of drive.

Life cycle 10 years was it and over that period very little difference.

The point I was making is encouraging folk to swap out and buy a new EV, in effect increasing car sales will only increase CO2 over the next 10 years.

Wouldn’t the vast majority of people buying a new EV be buying a new car anyway? The incentive is just to get them to choose an EV rather than an ICE car, as far as I see it

Big news saving the planet which I think needs affirmative action but if folk think they are doing a good thing going out and buying a new car the reality is they aren't. Whether that's a EV or not, over the next 10 years it's not going to reduce CO2 emissions. Yes it would in the UK as we don't produce many cars, but not in reality.

Over consumption however (what I read it as) only go to turn terrestrial TV on. Or YouTube or open a magazine to see what drives it.

Wonder how much money a year is spent worldwide on advertisements.

Or the supermarket with there buy two get one free offers despite not needing 3 people have to buy it
