A question for the gluesist`s

The last batch of jerry cans and pourers I purchased have all lost their rubber seals, they come from the manufacturer glued in place but whatever it is they use doesn't work . I have tried super glue and silicone ,neither of those hold either. I bought some new rubbers and I am looking for a flexible glue that will bond rubber to steel that is also petrol/oil/diesel proof.

Any suggestions or possibilities ?

Is this gear flexible Woody? These rubbers are constantly being squished and unsquished.

Last few I had let go I used B&Q Silicon Bathroom sealant.

Lasted well enough.

I have tried RTV TYA and it turns to mush when it comes into contact with diesel. Tried it before on a diesel tank flange

If i must be honest I've never used any ,it came up on google, seems to have good reviews though?

I’d be looking at a gasket sealant/adhesive. Providing the areas thoroughly cleaned and your gaskets are well compressed until it’s had time to go off I can’t see it coming away too quickly.

Threebond do pretty decent products but a quick google throws up 3M sealant linked below which sounds ideal.

Contact adhesive? Sticks rubber to steel no bother. Not sure if it's resistant to fuels though.

I use a flexible engine gasket cement, one that is not effected by petrol or solvents. The last one I used was this one :-

I have a couple and they just glug away slowly as no provision for air to get into the Jerry can.

mine have a little air pipe on them?

Another with a “lost” seal, this one has the air admittance pipe but not all of them do.
