A newbie to tig welding.

Hi, this is my first post in the Tig Dept. I rescued a plasma cutter and a tig welder. Both are probably quite old.

I have cleaned up the plasma cutter inside and out. I turned it on and it didn’t go bang and a very quickly tap of the trigger produced a click. So it’s alive at least.

I’ve also cleaned up the tig, inside and out.

Now, various leads have just been cut through for some reason. One of the two leads going to the foot pedal has been severed both the leads appear to be the same, as the plugs are identical.

My questions if you can help, are can it do arc and tig welding. Looking at the symbols on the front, it can.

Second question is about the gas connector on the front. The pipe has been cut off on the tig torch dines connector end. The pipe that comes out of the machine has the normal gas connector but also a T piece outlet. I know one would connect to the gas line on the dines connector. But what is the other outlet on the t piece for?

Last question is , if I turn it on with out a gas supply, could I at least get a strike and confirm it works.

Hi , the cebora manual should be available online , and the wee t on the hose has probably been for a back purge ,,

So I take it I would seal off the t and just supply the torch from the outlet.

Looks like you could remove the T altogether.

I'd remove the tee section, I think it maybe have been used as a very very basic back purge system, being as the machine has a gas outlet I presume it must have a gas valve inside, internal pictures would help on this one, please.... .

Also some pictures of the rear of the machine would help......mains/gas inlet......

Also you should be able to test the welder by using a set of mma leads and a 2.5mm rod......and by moving the switch above the amps control knob down, which seems to indicate mma/tig process.....

Just to add I doubt the machine will know, you could attach the MMA torch and check the machine works in both TIG and MMA mode, giving output, if no output on TIG you might need the pedal wired up to initiate an arc, unless its scratch start, it doesnt look like lift TIG is an option.

It's got a gas outlet so it will need either a pedal or torch switch wired up to activate the tig mode.
Should be pins 1 & 5 if you want to bridge them out for testing

Out of interest, do you know if there a start on that machine? lift or HF? doesn't seem to be a switch for that options.

If you look at the instruction link about, it shows a box for current adjusting on the machine, plugged into the little blue socket below the empty square hole under the Cebora Label. Unless you have something else to plug in, you may have issues.

Ah, yes so no current adjustment currently, nightmare unless you can get something rigged up, there are foot pedals with 2 plugs for some reason on ebay, £250......... but I wonder if the size of potentiometer could be found out and an alternative remote could be used instead.

well spotted, I did notice something was there, just never took too much notice, looks like a pot right enough.

That’s just a knob that you can unscrew.

Thanks for your reply. I have switched the machine on, without the foot pedal, as that needs a repair to the cable.
The machine does not light up at all. Ihave checked all the fuses. Do you think that it needs the foot pedal to burst into life. I’ve had a good look at everything inside and nothing appears burnt. The transformers measure out ok and also the very large dropper resistor. Maybe I’ll repair the foot pedal and see what happens. Both the plugs on the foot pedal are identical. Would it matter what socket they are plugged into? Thank for any help you can give me.

I would say it should not need the foot pedal for the machine to switch on.

Nothing on the other side. It looks like a filler for a spare hole.
