A Lifting problem to ponder on

Failing that move it (down the river / canal) to some boatyard with a crane, no brainer.

when i was in my teens my old man was a trawlerman and we got the old 6cylinder gardiner out using just lengths of 6x6 and levers to just raise each end by 6" each time was well over 4ft under the deck then winched it side ways off a bollard

We once lifted a big welding generator into the bows of a narrow boat by moving the boat to a bridge then winching it up and swinging it over. Why can't the boat be moved? We moved that one with a pole until it had an engine, and it was a big one too.

Disassemble it in place. As much as possible.

Build a ramp or platform, or series of steps along the boat, allowing it to gradually be lifted to be above the boats sides, and a gradual ramp down to the bank.

I did similar to that with a normal engine crane to get the engine out of a jcb. Set up heavy timbers across the loader arms, set the engine crane up on it, lifted the engine to above the timber level then slid in two more to sit the engine on to rejig the lift. The hard bit was lifting it back down to ground level from the loader arms, which is why, today, mr sketchy the engine crane has a slight curvature to the top arm, because a 4/98 is quite a heavy old donk (420kg...) to be lifting down with the jib right out.
If your almost at bank level when its up, you dont even have the hard bit to contend with.

Sounds sketchy, and it was, but mostly from climbing up and down to the loader arms with boots on smooth steel surfaces coated lightly with oil by the end of the job. But needs must, and it got done.

How wide is the opening above the generator?

And how wide and thick are the flat sections of the hull on each side?

If your on your own:-

You need at least 3 (prefer 6) pallets to level the distance between the hull and the dockside/toe-path, then 4 scaffold boards to bridge the hull side to hull side then on to pallets/ply, and a sheet of 8 x 4 ply on top of the pallets. Then use an engine crane to lift the generator. Now roll the genny, e/crane a long the scaf boards on to the pallets, then use the scaf boards to roll the genny on to the ground.

or get a sheet of ply to use as a ramp and get 4 big mates to lift it up on to the ply...and roll it on to the toe-path

Quite. One of our hydraulic power packs is 135kg and we lump them in and out of the vans on a 3 man lift.
