A Lifting problem to ponder on

I have to get this 150 kg Diesel generator out of a work boat and onto the bank, there is no access for any lifting machinery, the boat cant be moved and there is no engine hoist available , this has to be done by crafty , Stonehenge technology, pretend it never happened methods.

on site is a chain hoist, various jacks, a snatch block, lots of straps , rope and chain, steel sections and timber.

Can you ballast the work boat so the deck is level with the bank?

Jack it up with 3 or 4 trolley jacks on to successive pallets to raise it and slide it over on scaffold planks

A job for the proverbial "skyhook"
Think I'd rig up some sort of gantry from scaffold poles, one leg in boat and the other on bank. Use chain hoist to lift and then a "come along" type of wire winch to drag the hoist and load over to the bank.

Lifting sounds safer than jacking if the boat becomes unstable due to the load shifting.

go to a party shop and buy lots of balloons in nice bright colours and interesting shapes ( this is really really important, standard balloon shaped balloons will not work) . tie said balloons to the generator, fill balloons with helium.
Generator will float out of boat. Please send reward monies via PP f&f

when I was younger we used to take out old petrol engine from barges on the Thames.....
we used long scaffold poles as a wigwam /tri pod......the long one that took the weight was doubled up.....
had a 1/2 ton block n tackle for the lift.........
we used to put back in Perkins 4108's or 1,5 BMC Diesel engines....
did have the top tied back to the tow bar for just in case.....
worked everytime.....

The tides in Buckinghamshire don’t tend to be high, in fact they are nonexistent Think I would be looking at a long boom engine crane if the bank would support one

150kg is man handleable with a couple of strong lads.
Especially on a dark night when nobody is looking....

Another option depending on how much room you have, a board propped up the inside side of the hull with a hand winch anchored to a suitable point (e.g. towbar of car on the bank).
Winch it up the board with added grunt lifting from below.

Id get 4 people. 3 doing 50kg each, and one with an oil drum (etc) to slide under it.


Adjust the size of your "oil drum" to suit.


If you cant get the three people to lift it, get an engine crane, and do the oil drum thing with that.

A rope attached to the top of the thing slightly stretched to a strong point on land. Then set off one or more airbags under it and it will fly out.
