Being as it's a cast pot it won't be totally round, measure the maximum outer diameter (at several points around the pot), then the find minimum inner diameter, which should give us the pots wall thickness and how out of round it is.
I'll make the lid about 1/4 or 5/16 inch larger than the pots outer diameter and the lip just under the inner diameter, if that's OK with you, unless you want it bang the max diameter?
If you decided you wanted a D handle you could always weld the central hole up and redrill as required.
Brilliant and I will do. Making it slightly larger will probably interfere with the handle, when the handle lifts up its tight on the outer diameter. Let me have a measure and a play and ill get back to you for advice.
