Something a bit different today, a waterfall for a fishpond, you can buy these things for a song on ebay but not in these sizes, the flat spout is 900mm long, all 316 stainless as well.
The customer was well pleased, even gave me review on google!

Some stainless conveyor legs finished off today, 40 x 40 box section, M16 nuts welded inside the bottom plates for adjustable feet, and the flat bars at the top bolt to the sides of the conveyor, not much finishing required on these, just an industrial application in a dry area.

Cable ways, these are for a multi head filling machine bed in a chemical works, to route cables etc through the bed of the machine to the filling heads,
Minimal welding required here to prevent distortion, just enough to seal it, actually the whole job was run together autogenously (no filler), just turn up the current, keep a very tight arc and move fast, backstep welded and clamped down on some aluminium box section to act as a heatsinkto help reduce distortion, , longer ones are 300mm in length, material is 3mm thick. Again minimal cleaning up as they will never be seen when fitted,

Been a weekfull of bits and pieces, latest is a small trolley / stand for a metal storage drawer unit, 20 x 20 stainless angle and some 2" castors. they are going to put an mdf board in the bottom frame for a bit of extra junk storage

Some stainless gate hinges knocked out today, these were square laser cut plates from left over from another job, I shaped the radius by hand.

paul... what kind of wire wheel do you use? a stainless wire one or something?

made up some A frames in 40x40 box and welded 100 of 100mm long 8mm dia pegs onto them, all with flux cored wire in the mig

foolishly cleaned them all up with my standard wire wheel in a drill... looked lovely at first but all rusty as hell in a week... I'm thinking it must be contamination from the wire wheel?

I don't do much stainless (hardly ever) and it's all a mess compared to your work/skill.... but these rusty bits are driving my crazy!

Just make sure you only ever use the wheel on stainless or aluminium and never steel or you will contaminate the wheel and then the next bit of stainless or alu you use it on.

Does pickling paste have something to do with stainless not rusting easily ? If so what is pickling paste ?

It's a acid (usually contains hydrofluoric acid i believe) which removes the greyish (at it's worst , it can be straw, yellow, blue or purple as well) discoloration (heat from the welding arc has depleted the chromium content in those areas, so making stainless less stainless.
If you remove the oxidation it can not fester into the material any further (and become corrosion)

Stainless steel gates with GRP open flooring panels used for the infill, they are for an outdoor gas storage area in a chemical factory, this is what the hinges a few posts up were for. there are three in total, quite a nice little job to make

A Faraday key box for one of the neighbours, he bought one from the internet that didn't work, this one does, we put the keys in the box right next to the car and it couldn't read them at all.
Made from 1.5mm stainless steel.
